I had a small bleed at 28 weeks and hospital asked me to stay a night to monitor it, baby was doing great, bleeding stopped and I had some brown discharge for a few days after. But they never really found out what it was.

I started getting brown discharge a week ago at 33+6 on the 28th and my vagina was very tender, especially when weeing so I called up hospital because they had advised me to come back with any bleeding. She said to come in and they kept me in again for a night. Baby was perfect again. The doctor gave me a speculum exam which was very sore and painful and said I had thrush too so she gave me a prescription for pessary + cream. The brown discharge was still there but the hospital discharged me and couldn't really give me an explanation why it happened again either.

I still had the brown discharge when I had a midwife appointment on the 2nd and he said that it just happens to some women where everything is getting ready below and moving about. He said some women even get bleeding like a period but as long as the bleeding isn't coming from the placenta and it's just in the vagina then you just have to carry on as normal.

I used the thrush pessary on the night of the 2nd and it stung a bit at first and felt irritating.

Yesterday (3rd) I went out all day and did a lot of walking and when I got home and went to the toilet I noticed a tiny bit of discharge after wiping was a pinky colour. I don't know if it's just the thrush treatment irritating my vagina which has made it sore a bleed a tiny bit, if it's the walking about all day which has irritated it or if it's something more.

I've had more this morning but it's a tiny amount, pinky in colour and only when I wipe, it's not in my wee.

My midwife never answers her phone and only works certain days so I can't get hold of her and I feel like a nuisance calling up hosp for such a tiny amount.

Also I had a low placenta at my 20 week scan but I had a scan again at 33 weeks and it had moved a good amount away.

I am now 34+6 and baby is still moving about happily.

Any advice? :(

No advice re bleeding but plenty re thrush. It is an absolute b*ll*cks to get rid of in pg, I had it for 6 months with previous pg non-stop despite pessaries and creams. I bled little bits of pink blood when wearing a towel but I had to wear a towel because of increased discharge from the thrush. I have never felt so sore and uncomfortable in my life, it just didn't let up.

This pg hasn't been as bad, I have had an 8-10 week break from the thrush but it has come back but I'm so tender both before and after the break I had. I've been severely swollen so I can't sit down, I haven't been able to wipe after going to the loo because I've been so bruised, it's been horrid. I've had a couple of bits of pink but I think because I've had that break, my foof has had time to recover iykwim?

Talk to your gp about stronger stuff than canesten. There is stronger stuff you can get, I haven't used it because I have very sensitive skin and canesten burns already so I just have to suffer. Pessaries aren't great to use long term in pg according to my gp, especially if it keeps coming back. My gp refused to prescribe pessaries - she said although there is no evidence of harm to baby, she would not like to risk it and would prefer to put me on a serious long-term treatment post pg. This is also due to the fact that I am generally more prone to thrush even outside pg so this may not be the same for you.

Big hugs hun, thrush is absolutely bloomin' vile.

I'm the same no advice regarding bleeding I'm afraid but I have had such bad thrush throughout this pregnancy. Been swollen most of the time and sensitive to touch, a lot of discharge too. I have just been using canasten cream, my gp told me I should pop some of the cream inside vagina with finger instead of using a presssry, she wasn't keen on prescribing pressaries either. I'm finding recently that the canasten burns for a second and then eases of slightly but Iv got myself into a routine of using it every other day and accepting that it's just one of these things in pregnancy I need to put up with. Hope your symptoms ease a bit x

I had bleeding (just like spotting) every day from about 32 weeks to 38 weeks, was in hospital for observation but never found a cause & no harm at all (baby perfectly healthy & now 3 months old.) I'd say if you are in any doubt then ring the hospital, they'll be able to give you the best advice & that is what they are there for. Otherwise you may sit worrying when they could put your mind at rest.

I had both bleeding and thrush in my last pregnancy but they weren't linked. From experience I would say go and be checked. I was always told to ring if I had bleeding - I was seen for spotting which stopped so was sent home and had more for the next 3 days but didn't go back, when I told the mw she told me off for not going to be checked again. Because I was only having a bit of spotting they couldn't pinpoint what the problem was, they thought it was a slight erosion on my cervix. I was seen so often for bleeding and irritable uterus I saw more of the hospital than home! It turns out I had a partial placental abruption which was only discovered when I delivered the placenta so the checks, although seem like a hassle are definitely worth it. I now have a happy and healthy 22month oldx
