I had been having pains for the last week and had been checked out the thursday previous to be told that I was 2cm dilated and my waters were bulging. I'd had no sleep and felt shattered! Saturday I was a complete mess and spent the day whinging and crying to Sean for no real reason.
Then on Monday night my waters just broke, I was fast asleep in bed but woke with some pressure and felt soaked! So we hung around until the contractions got painful and I was then having 4 pains in every ten minutes - so at 4am tuesday morning we got to the hospital to be told that I was still 2cm but that my waters had gone. I was on the labour ward and then pains started to get bad but I was coping just with the tens machine, I then had a bath with clary sage which stopped my labour pains completely we sat and waited for the pains to come on but nothing. As my waters had broken I was sent down to one of the wards and told I would be induced in the morning - Sean was sent home so I was feeling a bit panicked as the dreaded drip word was mentioned. Anyway typically my contractions started again but when I was re examined in the morning I was still only 2cm-3cms by this point I had enough as Harrisons movements were really painful and I was all alone
Sean arrived at 10am the next morning, we were just sat watching tv when a midwife came in and escorted us back to the labour ward to be induced, I got on the bed and was told the procedure and I cried my heart out I was so scared as I'd been through similar with paris, nothing calmed me This was around 1.30pm. The drip was put in and I coped with no pain relief for a while but was then advised that it would be a long process and to have an epidural to allow me to rest, that was done almost straight away so I settled down to rest as I had the first half dosage, then within about 15 minutes I was grimacing in pain and struggling with each contraction, the midwife came back and checked me again and I was 4-5cm so she ran off to get the epidural guy back for more painrelief, now heres where things get hazy, she was gone about 8 minutes and I screamed at Sean that I need to push it hurt soooo much, he went pale and told me not to push as it was too early, I felt the urge to push with every contraction and struggled to breathe through the midwife came back and I was shaking she examined me again and said you are 10cm and nearly passed out she said you need to push, I was begging for pain relief and refusing to push until I had some, so she got the gas and air and wow it was amazing it all kind of felt surreal, I had moments of things being really weird to moments were I could just hear sean and my Midwife urging me on, I know what i had to do but god it hurt. With each pain i pushed and pushed but felt like I wasn't getting anywhere, sean was fantastic he was holding my hand and encouraging me to push, he told me when he saw the head, after a couple of pushed he crowed and one push later he arrived and was delivered onto my chest. He cried straight away and omg it was so amazing, I can't describe the love I felt at this moment. Sean was crying and so was I.
He was weighed and despite being three weeks early he was still bigger than paris at 7 pounds 4 ounces. Unfortunately I tore both ways so have a few stitches (ouchy) but I didn't fel myself tear and to be honest I don't care as he is worth every pain I felt. he's the most placid baby ever and we are all so in love with him.
Had a few problems with b/f but he's having expressed milk and bottled milk until my milk comes in properly. But he's having to be cup fed as he can't latch on to boob or teat properly.
so welcome to our family Harrison
edited to say that my whole labour was 1 hour 33 minutes from start to finish
