Hair loss after birth?

Just looking for some advice or an explanation about hair loss after giving birth. My son is 12 weeks old and at about 10 weeks I noticed a dramatic difference in hair loss when washing, brushing or rubbing my fingers through my hair. I have hair all over my clothes and bed and my hubby even finds them all over him lol.

Is this normal? If so how much is a "normal" amount to be loosing and when does it stop? My hair is thin enough so I could be doing with keeping as much as I can lol.

Mine comes out in handfuls and I'm always finding it everywhere! I believe it should settle by their first birthday.

I spoke to my hairdresser about this last week and when you are pregnant you don't lose as much hair as you normally do so after you have given birth your hair goes back to how it was before you got pregnant but it seems like it's thinning as you are not used to it.

You don't lose hair when pregnant so after you have your baby (last time mine kicked in at 6 months) all the hair you would have lost for those 9 months falls out. You will then get the lovely regrowth tiny fringe which looks laaaavely :/ xx

I had a lot of hair loss for about three months after giving birth. I was so concerned I went to the doctor but was told it's totally normal, hormones etc. It did go back to normal after a few months but then last month when my lo turned one it started happening again. Only lasted a couple of weeks, not sure what that was about!

I lost so much I ha a little bald patch at the side which I had to keep combing remaining hair over!!! It was coming out in handfuls. Don't worry though it does slow down and then re grow. Mine started when lo was 3 months and now re growing and he is 7 months. The joys of pregnancy!!!

Just wanted to share, after my first I mentioned hair loss to my doc. He had my thyroid tested and found it was being slow - so was put on some meds to get it going at a normal rate again. The hair loss eased up and I even got some extra energy out of it too. Might be worth having a simple blood test done to make sure the thyroid isn't playing up.
