Why is it everytime i try to get a dog someone tries to get in the way!!

My parents keep saying i cant have one as does oh's mum, but its my house i ignore them.

But a few years ago i went to see some staffy pups and chose one and was all the way to the week i was going to take it home and oh says not the house is to small especially with 2 cats, when we get a bigger house you can have one, so i sulked a bit and got over it and we moved house and he still wouldnt let me have a dog as 2 cats was enough. Anyway eventually we got a Bengal kitten and so i knew we werent going to have a dog for some time.

Over the last year we have managed to end up with just the one cat and we are in a bigger house so i thought, i will look around for a dog that i think will suit the situation. I have chosed a breed and we are going to see someone who has these kind of dogs on saturday as i have never seen one before other than on the internet, well oh has agreed to see these dogs and i showed him the possible one i would like to get as it will be available at the end of May and he said no!!! I asked why and he said we dont have the money, but i do! i have told him this, he then says well i was thinking in about 2/3 years!!! But i have wanted a dog since i left home and my dog died about 6/7 years ago. Why should i have to wait another 3 blinking years just cause he says so!!!!

I have thought about just getting one and letting him come home to find it sat on my lap cause i dont think he is going to budge on this. The other thing is it is someone to make me feel safe when oh is working away as well as a pet.

awww

it sounds to me like he just doesnt want a dog really and is making excuses and putting it off. if this is the case its not fair to make u hang on waiting for something that he's no intention of fulfilling. u should ask him the truth! if that is the truth, ur in a pickle i suppose coz u then gotta compromise- iv no idea how u can compromise on "wants a dog/doesnt want a dog", theres no in between really is there :?

I think he thinks that he is going to have to do all the walking and training and stuff with it, where as i like doing the training side and i was thinking all three of us could walk it so its a family thing.

Have you tried listing reasons for and then asking him reasons against?

It's a toughie because there is no compromise like trixi said!

I hope you do get your dog, they're a brilliant family pet but they are SOOO much hassle with dog poo, walking, injections, pet insurance blah blah. But if you can do all that yourself, then I hope you can get round your fella :D

xx

I have made a list of reasons for and against myself and there was more for than against and he couldnt even come up with anymore.

As for the poo, injections, insurance etc we know all about that having had so many cats, who were most of the time house cats to so plenty of poo and wee there, specially when they used to spray when they shouldnt. lol At least eventually a dog will go to the toilet outside, maybe it would teach my cat to go to the loo outside.

Hehe your staffy looks a right character!!

If he does ever back down and let me have a dog then i definately wont be a staffy as he doesnt like small dogs. I personally love them and i know they are supposed to be fantastic with children to.
