My post just arrived and the swab they took from me ladygarden last thurs has come back positive for group b streptococcus.

The leaflet enclosed says it's possible the baby can become ill within 12 hours of the birth.

:help:

Tis bad enough I'm shitting myself over my piles, my chronic spd and how my OH seems to think leaving me in Cardiff close to my dates, to do gigs in London is ok......

Now there's this!!!

they will just need to give you antibiotics during labour i think

It mentions this in the letter. I'm just rather paranoid, this pregnancy.

I think with all these late miscarriages and stillbirths both in the media recently and mentioned within my earshot, I'm so damned frightened of something happening to Daisy. I cannot get pregnant again, for my own health and that of the future baby, so I really am trying to stay healthy for Daisy.

I didn't post about last thurs. At 1am on the thurs, couldn't sleep, had a bit of BD with the OH for the first time in months and we were gentle but when I woke at midday, having got to sleep round 8am, I discovered I'd been slowly bleeding since. So I was having a consultant appt anyway and went to be seen in the afternoon and told them, ended up with a scan (got a wonderful pic) and various tests......... I became very ill whilst there, probably because it was so hot, I'd not eaten properly, and I was on my back being tummy-probed. But I had a horrible time. Luckily everything was fine but this letter is as a result of the swabs from that day.

I'm not doing so well at all at the moment and didn't get to see my own consultant and my midwife has been away and won't be back til May 4th, when she next sees me. So I feel very stranded and unable to just call the other midwives because mine knows me and knows what's going on with my pregnancy.

:(

Normally they just give you antibiotics in labour which will mean the baby is covered. Afterwards, its likely they will just want to keep you in for 24 hours to observe and make sure babs is feeding ok, able to maintain temperature, wet/dirty nappies ect.

If for some reason you dont manage to get your antibiotics (quick labour) or there are any risk factors like you having a raised temperature in labour, they may choose to take some blood from baby and potentially give baby some antibiotics.

Dont worry about it though, its really common :)

I know its worring hun but i've had this through all my pregnancies as long as you get to the hospital in time and get some antibiotics during labour baby will be fine, my OH didn't want me to read the leaflet cos he knew it would worry me( after i had my first i was told i had it and got no antibiotics) i had them with my 2nd and some with my 3rd but not all of them as it was a quick birth but i had none with my last baby as i had her within 45 mins of getting to the hospital! all my baby were fine they were closly moniterd after there birth, Please dont add this to your other worries i know its hard but talk to your midwife she'll tell you all about it x

Makes me even more nervous though, the timing thing, as my OH seems determined to keep gigging close to my dates and I was early the first time round and I have no family etc here - I know I need to say something to him about his being selfish re these gigs (in other words though) but I am not looking forward to him being a ******* about it. I was early and quick the first time.

o what a shame it'll be if he misses the birth, i think you should sit him down and tell him how you feel about this gig so close to your due date and now your GBS aswell. x

I think you should deffo tell your OH about him going away, especially with the other things going on atm! You shouldnt have to deal with it all on your own hun x

I agree with the others Hun, you really need your OH's support right now and to be reassured that he will get to to hospital on time no matter what so I think you should talk to him. You have given up your body for this baby for the last 8 months.... your life has been on hold, and it doesn't sound like you've had an easy time of it. You are only asking that your OH puts his life on hold for maybe a month around your DD to make sure he is there for you both. x

Hi yes they will give you antibitoics. I would just like to inform you, I remember I have read in a book that if you have strep B then the child may be sick specifically with pneumonia after birth. Because when I was pregnant I always had UTI and had swabs done but thank God no strep B.

Anyway, God bless. Think positive. nothing bad will happen. Just eat healthy and don't think bad thoughts! as to what my ob said. :)

Thanks everybody for the support. Yes I'm being induced but I might go into labour before then - so that's my worry. Am more worried now that I won't manage a natural labour (vaginal) because of the probs I've got but I'm seeing my midwife again on wed. Spoke to my OH and feel better for saying something. But it looks like he still needs to be absent for one night because of the house we've sold, hopefully the sale will complete in a week or something! Feel very broken, feel like a failure, doesn't help that when I chat to people I know about it, that they give me a knowing look and point out that what I say about being shit at pregnancy is true, but they then don't say something positive to buoy me back up!

I don't think you've been shit at pregnancy, if you think about it, to be continuing to cook your little babba despite more issues than most other people have to deal with, you must totally rock at pregnancy.

Thank you for saying so.

I guess I just feel very down at the moment because of how complicated its been since the start and how much I have and still am struggling.

:)

Not much longer to go now though then you'll have your baby and it'll all seem worth it

Very, very true. 2 weeks on wed, I will be 38 weeks, which is when they said they'd induce. As long as my iron level has normalised, they can do something. Though with how I feel at the mo, I want to make them take me in anyway and shove me on the fecking drip, so I stop cocking up which tablets I take when. And then I can sort out getting some Piriton for my damned hayfever!

It's all go, this pregnancy................
