Hey everyone!

I've been reading posts on here for a few weeks and figured it was probably time to join!

I had my booking appointment a week ago and recieved my letter in the post with my scan date this morning - YAY!! It is next Tuesday when I will be almost 13 weeks :)

Feeling excited, but not had many symptoms so a little bit worried as well!

How many pictures do they usually give you to keep at the scan?

Does it last long?

Will they tell me anything other than the due date at this scan?

Thanks guys! Looking forward to chatting with you :) xx

It's the loveliest thing seeing your baby on that screen ^^

We had to pay for pictures (£3 each). I don't think a dating scan will take very long, mine lasted quite a while because I had a combined scan (also for chromosomial defects) and they had to get the baby in the right position, prodded it for ages, then I had to get up and run up and down the corridor, and finally it condescended to 'pose' properly.

The bloke who did my scan wasn't the most talkative person ever, so I had to pester for information. Still, they don't tell you much at this stage, except the exact age of the baby.

Aw thanks hun that's really helpful!

Yeah it says on my letter that I need to take 4 pound coins with me so that I can buy pictures. It also says to make sure I take my pregnancy notes and blood forms, however I haven't got any blood forms :S Any idea? x

They did take blood and I had a form for that, but that was for the Down's syndrome screening. I wouldn't think they'd do blood tests on a dating scan...?

My letter mentioned a lot of strange paperwork, so I just took everything the midwife gave me and gave it to the person at reception to sift through. LOL!

Okay cool :) Well I have had a load of bloods done already and was told that I won't need anymore until in 20 something weeks! So I'm a bit confused. Oh well I will just take all my notes that the midwife gave me.

Do you usually hear the heart beat straight away when they start scanning? Or does it sometimes take a while for them to find it? x

You don't hear it, you just see it on the screen x It's really obvious, tiny blob in the middle of the baby pulsating very very fast!

You don't hear it?!!! No wayyyy! I'm gutted :( I thought we would hear it!!

You can ask the midwife to use a Doppler so you can hear the heartbeat or buy one yourself ( a Doppler, that is, lol!!)

They're too expensive :( We are really broke at the moment because my husband is going back to uni.

I did ask my midwife when I went to my booking appointment if I could hear the heart beat and she said that they don't do it as it can be hard to find and they dont want people worrying if they don't find it :(

Oh well. I guess it will still be exciting to see the heart beat :)

Good Luck for your scan. I can't wait for mine. :)
Hope everything goes well for you. x
