Hi ladies
So I joined the gym (haven't been yet) and have now found out I'm pregnant. Is it still ok to carry on and go to the gym or should I just cancel my membership and wait until after?

Hi,
Congratulations for the pregnancy first :D

I think it is still ok to workout but need to be aware what is safe and what is not depends on which trimester you are.

Take care

I would ask your GP/midwife opinion. Most advice seems to be that if you regularly do X exercise before you are pregnant then it's ok to carry on but starting something new may put a lot of strain on you. For example I had read that if you are a runner then it's perfectly safe to carry on running as your body is used to it but that you shouldn't suddenly start training for a 10k if you've never run before x

I've heard the same as Rose83. That it's OK to carry on with what your body is used to but not to start anything new. If your concerned about fitness then it's perfectly safe to walk each day as long as you are not so out of breath that you cannot hold a conversation.

If you're unsure then def check in with your gp / midwife and they will be able to advise you properly.

You can absolutely start new exercise, provided that you let any instructor know and you start off very gently. Always listen to your body and don't push yourself, keep it within your own limits.

It's ok, just stick to what you're comfortable with/your level of fitness and don't over exert yourself. I am still running :)

I am still running but I have noticed myself slow down a lot! I'm happy to be getting exercise regardless so will keep plodding along until I can't anymore. I'm still doing weights at the gym (a pregnancy routine I found), swimming and the occasional spinning class.

Tell me about it, I've gone from being one of the quicker ladies in the club to the slowest! I know I've got a good excuse but still stings nonetheless

Ha, yes it can be frustrating. Luckily I'm still doing ok with my running club as I'm a bit faster than most of them but that makes it better for me because as I slow down even more I'll still have people to run with! I'm really going to miss my running club, I've not been doing it that long but it's such an easy way of maintaining fitness while meeting people. It doesn't feel like a chore!

Yes, it's a god send I don't think I'd be out running without them. Yeah I can run with the slower ones now but sometimes you only get the quicker ones turn up for a run, esp in winter! And I then feel like I'm holding them back. :) my back isn't enjoying the running right now though!
