anyone considering taking LO for a night away together? i know daft right but we're thinking before summer sets in n just for a change of scenery, what do you guys use for LO sleeping - looking at travel cots, basinets, pop up travel bassinets etc...not sure which to go for...any recommendations? plus anyone had experience of taking LO away n have some top tips? will we b making big mistake lol...thinking in next month or so....packing the car will b interesting lol...

Not daft at all it's nice to get away. Travel cots are much the same I'd say. I wrap the mattress of mine with lo duvet for her to lie on top of so its more comfy and take as many home comforts as you can. We always still use sensor mat with travel cot too. Have fun!

We've been away 3 times since Finley arrived on the scene (he's 3 months old)

A change of scenery I always think is good for everyone- how old will baby be?

Depending on what sort of accommodation you're thinning of staying in would affect my choice. With my first we had a travel cot from mothercare, that had a bassinet insert in so baby was higher. Then as he got older he just went in the bottom bit

It worked just fine. Personally I wouldn't bother with a pop up one as it won't last as long as a normal travel cot

We got the Haul dream n play:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005Q94506/ref=twister_B00ABL7ABA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 (ours is like this but a different colour) which is great. Some of the colour ways have a zip in higher level for when they are small - saves buying a separate bassinet etc. We did buy an additional mattress for it but it folds up too and has its own carry bag. A bit like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000K7AQLG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00 but ours is just plain blue.

We have only been away for one night but we filled the car boot!

If we'd have gone away when she was newborn, I'd have just let her sleep in the pram carry cot for a few nights. We went away recently but she was too big for the carrycot so we bought a travel cot. It's quite a sturdy one and I know it'll be useful for other holidays and I'm planning to use it at home as a playpen to pop her in when I need the toilet/hang washing out etc so she is safe for a few minutes.

We went away a few weeks ago and we co-sleep mainly so just did that combined with using pram. This was for 2 nights.

We're going away next month for a month or two so think will get a travel cot if she's not co-sleeping as much.

I'm hoping to still be breast feeding cos if not bottles and steriliser etc will be nightmare!

I first went away for a long weekend in a caravan when my youngest was 9 weeks old - we took her moses basket (didn't take up room in the car, as we filled it with all her stuff). Was ok and everything was like it was at home really.

here's a question - what did you line the carrycot with to catch spit/puke etc as the material isnt removable like a sheet and has material up the sides...have tried with muslin underneath her n a cellular blanket over top, up sides and wrapped underneath but this doesnt stop spit going thru holes not to mention little inquisitive fingers...some have suggested towels but if she turns towards it she could suffocate...ARGH dilemma...

We went away on rugby tour when LO was 6 weeks - stayed in a static caravan. then to Thailand when she was 4 months. I made so many lists, but all was fine once we were away.

I have 3 kids, so we have pop up cots of various sizes, and also a big travel cot. Although when we went away when Emma was 6 weeks, I just collapsed up her crib and took that.

The good thing about going away in the uk, is that if you forget anything you can easily go to a supermarket and pick up what you need.

We went away to London for 1 night when my boy was 8 weeks old. If I was to go away with a newborn again, I wouldn't choose the capital lol. May have a little to do with that we are from rural south wales.
But just personally. I probably would have preferred to have stayed home. I found it stressful.
But others have had good experiences =)

Anyway, we took a travel cot and I just put a fleece blanket around the bottom of the travel cot mattress, Im not a worrier so no advice on that bit!

Take a thermal flask for hot water if you formula feeding. We timed going out with first nap due, when he was that young around an hour and a half after he woke. Good luck, hope you enjoy =) xx
