Me and dh went into babiesrus on Monday and the sales people nabbed me and asked if I wanted to join the gold club and 'had I heard about the baby gift list'. I signed up straightaway (had tried online before but nothing happened).
Anyhoo, the point of my post is:
Is anyone doing a gift list through a shop? Its like a wedding gift list so you can choose everything that you need/ would like and people can go and get it for you and its all kept updated so you don't get duplicates (blimey I sound like the sales lady!)
I was all for it and then started getting paranoid that people would find this a bit cheeky. Can you please give me your opinions? I'm not sure if its just because of my insecurities that i feel like this or if it really is cheeky?! We're getting all the big stuff ourselves so it would just be the smaller stuff like changing mat, bibs, few outfits etc.
Whaddya reckon?

we thought about it but decided against it for two reasons,

firstly i'd get panicy if people were leaving it to the last minute to get gifts and would feel un-prepared if i didnt have those crucial bits and bobs. And secondly we'd both been stung by wedding lists before when we've been a bit late to sign up and ended up have to pay for something that was over budget/not what we'd like to buy.

I thought about it, simply so i could tell relatives that the list existed and they could, if they wanted to, buy anything off it, and i'd know i'd get what i wanted, and i could tick things off as i bought them too.

However, i cant get it to work on babies r us website and now i've pretty much bought everything anyway so theres no point.

I'd have used it more for my own planning then for everyone else, but it would have been nice to tell them, this is the one i want.

I think its a fab idea for immediate family, ie mums, sisters, brothers close family, not for friends and others though...

we have told everyone that if they want to get us some stuff they can get us things for a baby at 3 months, as we have just about everything we think we need from when the baby arrives.

I don't know if I would. I'm a bit funny about presents I always get really embarrassed if someones just thought to buy one but to ask for one I would feel awful!! I guess I know I am going to end up with loads of stuff I wouldn't know what to do with but I like surprises when it comes to presents makes them feel more personal. But I would completely understand and wouldn't find anything wrong if someone gave me a list BUT only if they were close familly and they knew I would be buying stuff for them anyway. :)

I feel funny about asking people for things too- I didn't do a wedding gift list for this reason so i'm really not sure about doing it for baby now. hubby wants to go ahead with it though. I dunno, maybe we could do it and just give it to people if they ask if theres anything we want.

With the wedding list even if we do need stuff I am asking for charity donations to one we choose (probably Ellies Haven).

I would say if you want one then here is a list of things we haven't got yet but we really don't expect you or anyone to buy from it. Or you could say because you didn't have a wedding list thats why your having a baby list. :)

I think it is a good idea, I love loads of the babies r us stuff, I look at their catalogue every day

I agree with the more close family aspect of it although I would feel happy giving people who had mentioned that they wanted to buy a present but were stuck for ideas.

I adore the garden friends range (especially the activity mat) and the boys safari clothes are ace. I am going to get our cotbed from there and I'm liking the I Love My Bear bedding range which I may pick a few bits from as I can't find any ocean/aquatic bedding anywhere.
