Sorry this is a rant post but need to let it out cos I'm so gutted about my appointment today.
So I live in Germany and deal with a German gynaeocologist, I had my appointment today for a scan and checkup (am 14 weeks so equivelent to the 12 week scan in England). Was sooo excited to see baby properly, have a good view of the face and hands and stuff and to hear how it was doing.
When I got there she rushed me to remove my pants and sit on the chair thingy, I was assuming they'd do an abdominal scan as I know that's normal after like 9 weeks. I asked her this, she looked at me like I was stupid and said 'no you can't have those until 20 weeks'...what? No idea what she's talking about obviously.
She did this horrible internal scan for about 5 seconds, said 'the baby's fine' and turned it off, hardly saw baby at all and got no picture.
I told her i'd be passing out a lot lately and her answer was 'drink coffee when you feel like you're gonna pass out'. - ????
Dunno whether I'm being over dramatic but I just started crying in her office and walked out, feel so disappointed and sh*tty about it.
Rant over, just wanted to get it out :(

Aw hun im so.sorry :( they can do abdominal scans from 6 weeks!! Thats really odd! Is there private clinics there that you can go to so you can have a nicer experience and have a wee snoop on your little one? X

Thanks for the repy Lyllian, all doctors here are private and we pay a fortune for health insurance so I expected much better, thankfully we're moving back to the UK soon so shouldn't be a problem for much longer.
But yeah the scan thing is just bizarre! Bit worrying that a women's doctor would think that abdominal scans can't be done until 20 weeks :S she shouldn't really be doing the job in that case! xo

Maybe their equipment was a bit rubbish or maybe they only have internal scanners? At the epu here they only do internal scans up to 12 weeks.
Poor you though x I wouldn't take her advice about drinking coffee either, what an idiot!

This is very very strange :( was she new or smth?

Sorry you had such a bad experience hun :(

EPU in edinburgh rried to do.abdominal with me at 5 weeks but had to do internal. From 6/7 weeks they did abdominal. Thats rubbish i feel.so bad for you, when will you be back in the uk? Before your 20 week one i hope? X

What an awful midwife! And what a horrible experience for you! Sending big hugs xx

Thanks for being so nice ladies, we had the last appointment of the day and it was just really clear that she wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible, should be back in the UK bu the end of the month so hopefully they'll be better there!
I know everyone has bad experiences with midwives at some point so seems like you get 'em everywhere!

Sheesh, what a dreadful woman! Sorry Northerngirl.

How are you feeling otherwise?

Big hug. xxx

ahh thats really upsetting especially when the scan is like a goal and something to look forward to and be excited about. I hope your 20 week one here in the UK makes up for it. Hugs to you xx

Big hugs, that sounds awful. I really do feel for you.

As for the dizzy spells, make sure you are drinking lots of fluids (not coffee though!) and getting enough sugars. I drink a lot of fizzy pop now as that keeps my sugar levels up. Not great for the teeth mind, but can't have everything! Also get up really slowly from lying down or sitting. Also on the other side, if you are stood up and feel dizzy, get down as quick as possible and lie down. People can try and force themselves not to lie down and you can make it a lot worse, even causing fitting if you don't allow your body to lie down. Head lower than heart etc.

I am sure there is a lot of advice on websites so perhaps take a look there.

Big hugs and I hope you can get a scan in uk soon. I believe the private ones aren't too much here so perhaps as soon as you get here you could book something?

Xxx

Thanks Melily, otherwise I'm feeling fine really, organising a move abroad is always pretty darn stressful but so far everything's going to plan :)

Hey northern girl, I've spoken to a friend living in Germany and she says this is the norm - she said all her scans were internal until the point she remembers having a visible bump.

That doesn't excuse the rudeness of the woman, especially not answering your concerns properly.

Hope you don't feel too upset, you'll soon be back x

I guess they just do things differently here, just can't understand the reason for it cos the image you get is rubbish, can't see the baby's profile or anything.
Although in some countries they don't even get scans or anything so I guess I should just be glad that I get to see baby at all! xo
