At long lost I have got time to tell you all about Grace Hannah's entrance:
All the way through my pregnany had planned a home waterbirth - MW was happy with this and everything was going to plan. Pool arrived and we had a practice session.
Due date arrived and no baby in sight.
Then 6 days overdue my water broke at 6.30 am - talk about niagra falls. Phoned the hospital and they told me to go in the next day if I hadn't started to go into labour. Woke 3 am next morning contractions started - so excited as I thought this might mean I could have my waterbirth afterall. Alas after 3 hours all went very quet and not a contraction anywhere to be found. Phoned Hospital who said that I was to go inabout 9 am .. so planned home waterbirth was cancelled as the hospital had to start induction as my waters had broken over 24 hours before and they were concerned about infection.
Arrived at hospital and they wanted to confirm that my waters had broken so gave me a thikc pad and told me to go for a walk for an hour around the hospital - easier said than done when you are overdue. anyhow an hour later they confirm that my waters had broken and then gave me a pessary to get things going.
Was then told to keep active for 6 hours - after this I was checked and I hadn't even started to dilate. I was then put on a dripe to induce me and monitored. After abour 2 hours I started to have contractions and nurse was sure that things were moving along nicely. 4 hours later and checked again - nothing. By this time I was on gas and air - another 4 hours later and I was only dilated 1 cm - again another 4 hours later and only 2 cm dilated..........The doc then checked me and said that he couldn't see much ever happening and said that I ought to have a C. Section.
As I have never ever been to hospital before, this was the last thing my DH and I wanted - asked if we could hold on a bit longer. Doc agreed to another 2 hours - but still on 2 cm dilated - so not enough to get a 8lb plus baby out of.
Doc said that I was just one of those women who were good at baking the baby but couldn't get the oven door open
Once the decision was made to have the C. Section I was taken into theatre within 30 mins. I have to say that the whole C. Section experience was amazing. The docs talked me through everything and we had a good laugh as my request for lippo-suction to be done at the same time was turned down. After about 20 mins of being in theatre baby Grace was handed to me weighing a perfect 8lb 14 oz. She was absolutely gorgeous. I was then in theatre for another 30 mins or so as they stitched together all my layers of fat and then I was in recovery.
In hospital for 3 days and from day 1 felt absolutely tip top - had no problems at all and apart from feeling tired........
Can't say how wonderful it is to have my gorgeous darlng daughter in my arms - waited nearly 15 years for this baby - I would go through it all again ........ she is just so precious ......
