I've read bits and bobs about free nursery places for 3 year olds. Does anybody know how this works? Is it available to all kids and how many free sessions do they get?

Useful to know for when we're planning our next baby, figuring out childcare costs etc.

Hiya, my little boy is 3 and I've been told he can go to nursery either mornings or afternoons every day for free, as government funding is available for all 3 and 4 year olds to do this.

He's been going to a private nursery since he was 1 and obviously theres been a charge but I was speaking to the staff the other day and he can go to the same nursery on an afternoon (think its only 2 and a half hours a day though) for free so Im thinking about doing that.

Some nurseries offer places and some dont, I think you have to apply for a space as theres sometimes a waiting list.

I think its also only for six months of the year but Im not entirely sure. Sorry I havent been much help but thats the basics anyway :)

Thanks Kirsty, it all helps though doesn't it. I need to check that the nursery we've booked Isaac into whether they have free nursery places.
