We use Aptimil and he goes through 2 tubs a week. Anyone have any tips on how to reduce the cost (bulk buying perhaps).

Do you qualify for healthy start vouchers? You can get free formula/vitamins/fruit and veg for you and little one x

Boots are doing a deal 2 for £12 n I think so are morrisons. Get the biggest size tubs. Is ur Lo just drinking loads n loads maybe change to the hungry baby version might reduce the about u use Ummm don't no what else

i had this for ages and lo was on aptamil too which i know is best milk apparently but hardest on the pocket lol ride it out beofre you know it youll be weaning! i did get a tip from a mw once when mad was drinking a lot , you know more than she needed just cos she was hungry... less formula to water so basically 5ozs formula in 7 ozs! its NOT like using toomuch formula which is dangerous as can dehydrate, it helped us :) x

I use aptamil too and go through 1 tub a fortnight, baby has 6oz and 5 feeds a day! It is expensive and never on offer like nappies are so cant really bulk buy! Will check boots though if they have an offer on! They also sell cartons but they are around 66p each fir 7oz but can go back in fridge for 24 hr so if LO is wasting milk it might be more cost effective? do let me know if you find it on offer anywhere xx

Im a aptimil mummy :) she has 5 bottles a day at 7oz, and we use 1tub a week, the only difference between hungry formula n normal is that its harder for bubs to digest n not any more callorific,
My health visitor gave me some advise this week at baby weigh in, there us hardly a difference in aptamil, cow & gate and SMA formula there is 0.1-0.3 difference on some of the vitamin & minerals between brands and thats it, the only reason aptamil say its closest to breastmilk is cos they patiented it first,
Ive tryed my LO on c&g yesterday and SMA today atvto be honest she seams better on them than aptamil cos sometimes shes really trumpy and struggles to poop but has been s different baby over the last few days,
I think im gona be converted especially as per tub its nearly £1.50 differce, not a huge amount buf as she gets bigger n uses more it will make a difference,

Might be worth buyin a carton of each & trying ur LO?

X

My nan worked on the maternity ward for years and told me when I was pregnant with dd #1 that sma was the the better one because cow and gate and aptimal gave babies really stinkey poop lol I don't no how true it was coz I wasnt risking it lol sma was fine with my dd n we moved on to the hungry baby milk after a few weeks an we used a tub every week to a week andc half I think she was a greedy baby but she never wasted milk and she started off every four hours a bottle and every time we increased the amount she went longer and longer but it was bang on same amount of hours between feeds every day but she's a good eater now aswell

Thanks for your advice. I have tried hungry baby but he just kept getting constipated. I also tried sma and this seemed to make him sick. Will try boots and upping his water content thanks

They are not allowed to do offers on 'baby milk' which is why its never on offer. You also cant get points e.g Boots points on 'baby milk'. They are not allowed to be seen to be promoting formula which is why there is never any adds for baby milk.
They can put follow on and toddler on offer though.

Hope this helps.

It's in morrisons any sma tubs 2 for £12 its only on sma though not aptimal

Aww I thought it was all of them coz the sign was infront of the gold and hungry baby and the other milk u no with the purple and green lid. As well as the red lid toddler milk morrisons can be very misleading they did the same with shower gels b4 had the sign up in front of all the original sorces but the offer was only on the one smell. I no its our job to read the signs properly but they shouldn't really put them all over coz I was just walking down the aisle for wet wipes coz I don't use formular any more. Thinking about it morrisons is bad for stuff like that coz one time they had an offer on Johnson wipes buy one get two free but I picked up just two packs coz they r usually buy one get one free n I didn't see the sign until the next day but no one even made me awear of it on the till or nothing. But I will still shop there coz I like there food lol

Your right, Morrisons are terrible for that.

I hate missing out on the bargains too!

I can never get over how much they charge for baby milk, it must cost them a quarter of the price to make and sell etc, and new mums need the money too, such a shame. sorry no tips to save money, but they won't need two tubs a week for long X

2 tubs a week?? Really? I remember ours would last about 2 weeks (although that was after 4 months of bf)

My mum swore by cow & gate with my little sister, it was cheaper and seemed to fill her up for longer, just seemed to be a better formula? x

I used cow and gate when I was buying the cartons of milk and one time couldn't get hold of sma ones and I was always worried that the cow and gate was guna give her toilet issues coz of the sudden change but it never and the cartons were smaller but still did the Job so ur tight it prob does fill them up more
