poor animals & farmers

:( on a more selfish note, im really hoping that this is as worse as it is going to get!!! Im going on holiday in two weeks and it is on a farm! We where planning to do loads of walking, but they shut loads of walks last time there was a foot and mouth outbreak!

I feel really sorry for them. What with one thing and another, the last decade has been an awful time to be a farmer. We can only hope that it won't be quite as bad as 2001. The fact that the source appears to have been a lab which was supposed to have been finding a cure can only add to their anguish. So many farmers are going bankrupt or coming close to it at the moment. This situation can't be helping them.

And it affects us all, too, whether we live in the countryside or not. Tourism was horrifically affected in 2001 and it cost the economy something in the region of £8 billion. Plus if less British food is available whether owing to this or the flooding, then there will be environmental problems since we will increasingly have to eat imported food with all the extra fuel burning etc that will entail.

A very messy business and I hope they can resolve it soon.

its awful and i know its nasty to say ibut i hope there arent as many suicides as a result of it this time, in 2001 we knew 5 people from our surrounding farms that committed suicide because it was so overwhelming :(

my dad is a pig farmer, and it has prope messed up the business, i mean it like loads,
the pigs cant be moved so its putting pressure on the workers to make more space for the pigs on their farms which they cant do, :(
meaning theres over populating basically on the farm and they are having problems with it,
wont go into thewhole story but :(
i dont like it at all

poor aimals

All of my family have farms, my Dad and Uncle have sheep and cattle, one cousin has pigs and another has cattle.

It certainly is putting strain on the business side of things.

agreed, makes me sad and stuff cos my dad is being puting under alot of strain

aww.. hugs to your families

makes me feel guilty that im worried about it effecting my holiday, when it is effecting peoples everyday lives!!

Fingers crossed that these are the only two cases
