Just following on from the 'What have you put on hold' thread.....

I'm ttc and have been on and off since last June but an accident resulting in a broken leg and ankle put it on hold for a while. :wall:

Now we have booked a holiday in June to Turkey which is about four or five hours on a plane and in the chance that I might fall pregnant before then what are the risks? I feel pretty stupid asking this now but seeing a post in the other thread got me worrying as I thought the risks were in late pregnancy.

And Cheri22 told me I would either get pregnant or find out in March.

Seriously though....I have a part of me saying not to put my life on hold and another part worrying about it. :?

I dont think there is any risk in flying during the first and second trimesters, the only risk is of thrombosis so you should wear support socks.

Ignore my post about flying and m/c in the other thread. I didnt m/c until a week after Id flown so I really dont think that was the cause  Im sure a holiday is better for you and the possible baby than not anyway :)

I went abroad when I was 12 weeks and had no problems at all, think the main reason ppl dont like preg women flying is incase they go into premature labour which is why most airlines won't let you fly past 28 weeks unless you have a doctors note x

I flew to Lanzarote 2 day's after getting my BFP I was 4weeks 6days, flew home again a week later at 5weeks 6days and all is fine. That was also a 4 hour flight.

I found out whilst on holiday in Portugal and everything was fine.

Thats great, thanks girls you've put my mind at ease. :D

 Hi Charmed

I did loads of research on this just before I booked my holiday to Cyprus for June.

The risk of flyin in early pregnancy is due to the higer in the sky you are the less protection you've got from radiation from the sun. The radiation levels are so low that the only time it would be an issue is if you are frequently flying long haul flights because they fly higher in the sky and for a longer period of time, so the only people really at risk are flight attendants etc.

The risks are so low that it's never actually been proved that it would damage the developing featus in any way.

The advice was that if you're only going on short haul flights and providing you're not flying every day it's fine to fly in early pregnancy.

The only other time you can't fly while pregnant is after about 32 weeks or something like that and that's because of the risk of premature labour that the cabin crew aren't equipped to deal with.

Hope this helps
