My midwife said it's recommended for pregnant women? I don't really want it to be honest and it does seem everyone that has it, gets it... Even though it isn't a live vaccine?

Does anyone know the risks to baby if i were to get the flu? And anyone had the vaccine? Xxx

It's important to remember that the flu jab doesn't protect against all types of flu. It will protect against the most common strains for that year. It's also possible that people claim to have had the flu when in fact it's a heavy cold or another illness. It's also important to remember that's it's your choice. No one can or should force you to have it. It's important to do your research but go to reliable sources. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet. I have had the flu jab for the last 25 years and never had a problem. Ask your midwife for more information so you can make an informed decision. Also ask her what the risks are to yourself and your baby. She has to give you unbiased, yet truthful information.

Thank you, got to call my midwife so will ask her tomorrow :) x

I got the flu jab when pregnant with my 3rd child (I was about 7 months pregnant). I was really worried about it however I had had pneumonia earlier in my pregnancy and felt awful so didnt want to take any chances. I had absolutely no side effects and was fine. Its totally up to you whatever you decide x

I second what Maid of Kent said. It's totally your choice.
My midwife suggested it was a waste of time, where my doctor strongly recommended it. I was unsure what to do, and then I started to get a bit of a cough/cold and I started to get paranoid I would catch flu, as your immune system is in a vulnerable place anyway when pregnant. I guess for me, the positives outweighed the negatives. I had it at about 27 weeks pregnant, and I'm glad I did.

I won't be getting it, never had the flu shot and don't intend to start now :)

I was told by my midwife to get it booked in.

I've never ever had the jab before so do I really need it?

Really not sure what to do xx

My midwife has advised for me to wait til after the winter is done for me to get the flu jab! I didn't really understand what difference it made to be honest xx

Mine said now was the best time? Our immune systems aren't as good now apparently. I don't think I'm going to do it xxx

I had mine the first week it came out. I work with vulnerable people who could die if exposed to flu, I also have pregnancy related asthma. I personally believe it is best for baby so I had it without another thought but in very pro- vax

It is totally your choice and as the other ladies have said you need to do your own research to come to your own informed decision.

I decided not to, my midwife gave me a hard time about it!

They will always recommend vaccinations, I feel it's a bit if a box ticking exercise and they have to cover their own backs. I don't want to push my views on it onto you tho!

I really didn't want to catch the flu. I couldn't find any clear evidence the vaccine was harmful to me or baby and I know that flu sucks, so for me the choice was easy, especially when I learned it wasn't a 'live' vaccine. I had it as soon as I could.

Do what makes you worry less, whatever that may be. Don't let anyone guilt you into a decision either way - it is your body, your baby, your choice.

I had mine 3 weeks ago. But I get it every year anyway as I have asthma. I have now had it in both pregnancy's and no side effects. But remember it is completely up to you. No one can force you. X

I too have asthma and normally get it but my midwife was adamant I should wait to get it lol! So weird I don't see why she wants me to wait til the winter is over? I guess it's just different opinions and experiences at the end of the day - I probably won't remember to get it! Xx
