Hi everyone,

So I had my 12 week scan today - it was all a bit confusing as they told me not to drink too much before I went and to go to the loo before I went in. When I get in there and they started to look she told me that my bladder was too empty and I had to go off and have a warm drink then go back half an hour later!
Went back in and she said (as I had originally thought) that I was 11wks +2 rather than 12wks+2 (totally happy with that as I could pinpoint conception). Baby looks pretty good, very wriggly and wavy which was really nice, however the statistics for chromosomal abnormalities were 1 in 246 (average for my age etc is 1 in 1251). Not really sure what to do as they were suggesting a CVS or wait until the 16 week scan they have booked me in for - if there are abnormalities then I would go for an amnio after that...
Not really sure what to think, we are definitely going to go and get a private scan next week to get a second opinion but I was just wondering whether anyone else had had either a CVS or these sorts of odds? Bit confused...

Sorry to blabber on but I am pretty confused, was really hoping we could tell people and be excited but now feeling like we shouldn't?

Any comments would be much appreciated x

Hi love. I had a cvs on Monday. Having said that my risk was slightly higher at 1 in 45! I know exactly what your going through.

We found out our results yesterday and we have a little boy with no chromosomal problems. Were waiting for our next results to find out about a heart condition.

I would suggest going through with the procedure now for peace of mind, we has ours within a week and the results within 10days and are now looking forward to planning for the future.

I will be honest and say that the CVS is not particularly nice (and I had it twice as a student doc did it wrong the first time) but a weight off my shoulders.

If you need to talk about anything feel free to PM me and I wish you all the luck in the world. The first tri girls are amazingly supportive too!
X

I was told anything over 1 in 150 was considered low risk.
But I think if having the CVS would put ur mind at rest then maybe worth having.
I am sure LO is fine x

i agree with the girls, if it puts ur mind at rest, do it hunny, all the worrying can sometimes be worse than going through with tests and finding out the answers xx

Thanks for all your advice, really reassuring to hear that 1 in 45 still led to a healthy baby  I think that if I am honest I will probably go for the CVS but I am keen to get a second opinion from another scan as I would do if I had got to have some sort of operation...
Really appreciate all your re-assurance x

They do scan you again before the test. I really wouldn't spend lots of money on private scans!

Have you had the blood test too?

yes, they were the results including the blood test results. Think I will probs go for the CVS, will let you know how it goes if I do, thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it x

what is this new abnormality thing I'm sure when i was pregnant with isabelle we never had this?

Isabelle was diagnosed at 21 weeks with a heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallots and apparently had a very high chance of having chromosome abnormalities. we had to have an amniocentesis but fortunately it all came back clear, I'm writing this to say that ok they say that theres a high chance but thats not the case at all it could just be heart problems or something, which i know is still not what anyone wants but sometimes, most the time hospitals are just covering their backs.

Isabelle had closed heart surgery at 6 weeks and open heart surgery at 14 months (18th july 2011) and is now back to her usual self.
