It feels weird posting in here, I keep going to ttc by mistake.

I have just rung my GP surgery to tell them I'm pregnant and they said I should first make appointment with the GP and then I see the midwife in a few weeks. The appointment is on Saturday so my OH could come with me but do any of you girls think there would be any point in bringing him? Is there any useful info or is it all form filling? Also is there any reason I might not want to bring him, will I be asked to do anything embarassing? Thanks for your help.

Thank you Mrs Mc. I'm so pleased to see you've got to over 12 weeks this time. You obviously had a tough little bean there.

I just had a chat with my doctor, took the OH, he wants to come to all appointments but I want him there also :) looking forward to my first MW appointment but very scared.

Thanks Squidgy. How far along are you? I think I will bring him as I'm sure he'd like to come. He probably won't be able to make most appointments because of work but obviously he'll want to be at scans and the big appointments.

If he can come there's no reason why he shouldn't, but at least for me I didn't feel like I missed him there either really (he was at work when I had my appointment) All she did was ask me when my last period was and give me an estimated due date, told me to take folic acid if I wasn't already, wrote down my contact details to send to a midwife to make an appointment and gave me a little pregnancy magazine thingy. Also asked if I had any questions.. Didn't do a test or anything. Didn't weigh me or measure me or anything either (I was there the month before to get bloods done because I hadn't conceived yet.. so she had that information already I guess.. don't know if they usually record that or not). Oh, and she asked about our families medical history and said I should eat healthy and not/cut down on drinking and smoking (which I don't do anyway). That was it really.... Congratulations again :) And good luck!

Thanks Lewa that was very helpful. Another question, when you give date of LMP do you also tell them when you thought you ovulated or will they just ignore that. I have slightly irregular cycles so the date of LMP won't give me and accurate EDD but I guess if they estimate I'm more pregnant than I am (I know I'm for weeks because I have been bbt charting) I might get an earlier scan date which would be nice.

lovley to see u here mustard :yay:

i didnt go to GP, i foned hospital, spoke to midwife and had a scan date in post
3/4 days later! but i supose everywheres differnt!

neways, congrats again :petal: xxxxx

No problem :)
I told her when I thought I ovulated, but she did ignore that and just base it on when you started your period. According to her I'm due 20th of Feb, but I'm pretty sure it's 22nd since I have slightly irregular cycles as well (ovulated on cd 17 I think) She did ask what my average cycle length is though, so I guess they kind of take that into consideration, but I doubt it since online calculators that don't ask me the av. cycle length also say I'm due 20th, while if I put in ovulation date they say 22nd..
If she says your further along than you are then it doesn't harm if you get an earlier scan I guess :)
From what I understand they will give a more accurate due date and date of when you conceived when you have your scan anyway, so eventually it'll all come together :P

no need to bring the OH huni. all my gp did was date my pregnancy and gave me lots of info about foods things and then told me to make an appointment with the midwife! :)

so happy for you huni. x x x x

Hey Mustard,
Well....tbh-its entirely down to you as a person.
On my first pregnancy, I went to the 1st booking appt on my own, hubby was working anyway but felt I wanted to go it alone incase of any embarrassment.
Its mainly form filling and creating your pregnancy notes which will stay with u throughout ur pregnancy.
Nothing OH vould do apart from be moral support I guess.
I called the Midwife today (as I have her mob number from last time) and asked about an early scan to put my mind at ease, she is looking into it for me and hopefully ill get one.

How u feeling in urself Mustard, any symptoms?

xxx

I'm dragging my OH along to as much as possible and he was keen to come to first appt although he wasn't really needed. I was the same as the girls, even though I said I knew when I had ovulated and I have quite a long irregular cycle she was only interested in LMP. I don't mind as it means its prob underestimated where I am and I get my scan sooner. I only really needed to see the doctor cos I was heading to Malaysia and needed to know about antimalarials etc. She just gave me a pack and a number to call for midwife and scan appts! Feels a bit deflating tbh!

Thanks girls, appointment is on Saturday so I'll let you know how I get on, but it sounds pretty boring. I'll bring along hubby, he like to feel involved.
