first appointment

Hi again,

THank you for all my warm welcomes, by the way.

Anyway, I was just wondering if it is normal to have your first appointment with the doctors as late as 12 weeks...? This is my 2nd pregnancy and nothing was particularly a problem with the first except for GBS but that's not an issue till labour anyway. But I thought I would have had a scan by 12 weeks, but I won't even be registered as pregnant with anyone!!

I'm not sure whats normal?! I have my 1st app on Monday, so just past 7 weeks, however I had mc in sept last year so confided in my gp that i was worried, and she booked me in for earliest app that mw had, which was 2 weeks wait.

it does sound like every area is different, i had my booking in appt at 9 weeks and my scan is 13 weeks, some girls on here haven't got a first scan until 20 weeks.

In my area the MW likes to see you between 6-8 weeks, books you in at around 10 weeks and you get your first scan between 12-15 weeks.

12 weeks does seem like quite a wait, especially when the first tri draaaaaags by!

Seems like it's pretty normal in the UK. I went to register with our doctor and said I just found out I'm preggies. The receptionist told me to come back a week later to see the nurse and then wait another week to see a doctor. I said to her by then I'll be almost 7 weeks, I'm a first time mom and don't have a clue what to expect. She just told me to relax because the doctor will not be able to see me sooner than that and he will not be doing a blood test if the home pg test were positive. I then phoned the AXA PPP helpline and spoke to a midwive, she also said it's standard practise and as long as I'm not bleeding or vomiting excessively, then I'm fine. So, not much help for someone that's never been pg. She also said I can always go private and pay privately for a blood test and scan if I want to, so I guess I'll do just that to make myself feel better.

I see the MW at the centre last week and have my booking in appointment the 13th august and i will be anywhere from 6-7 weeks pregnant. weired and wonderful.

where i live you get booked in at 8 weeks with midwife scan at 10-13 weeks although midwife will see you as early as 5 weeks if you ask though theres not much they can do at that stage only offer advice xxx
