I wasnt very well today, i almost passed out before i even got to the hospital anyway so wasnt exactly in a fantastic mood  when we got there we waited about 30 minutes before we were even called through to get weighed and have BP took. Then i was asked to pee into the smallest bottle iv ever seen. I got stage fright and just couldnt do it so i sat in the waiting room crying. Everyone seemed to come and go and i was sat there for about 45mins then DH said 'maybe you cant go because you havnt given them a wee sample?' so i went to some more private toilets away from the waiting room and managed to have a wee but hardly anything went in the bottle. So i went back and told DH and i wasnt sure what to do as id hardly done anything. I went into the weighing room and asked the nurse if it was enough and she said 'hasnt a mifwife seen you yet? she'll take it off you'.

After another 10mins a Midwife called me though. She flicked through my notes then said she was going to take blood. She tried one arm and it didnt work so had to be jabed again and i finally gave a blood sample!! Then she just said i need to make a 20 week scan at reception. i was so upset, my midwife said id get a 12 week scan and learn about birth, the hospital and the baby. Iv been worried that im feeling loads better in a short space of time but she said if im worried then i need to ask my GP to refer me back for a scan :wall: Just thought my worries would be over today but there not. Just tried to book an 'early scan' privatly but theyve not got back intouch with me yet.

Not a good day for me at all  just want to curl up and cry

Hmmmmm Im not surprised you are a little upset.......and you should definitely be offered a 12 week scan, maybe they dont realise you havent had one? I would call the hospital and request one (sometimes you have to be a bit forceful).

I see my MW's (there are 2 of them) at my doctors surgery so its much more personal and you get to know them well!

To be honest MW appointments are not all that exciting, and are very few and far between in the early stages......from 16 weeks I didnt have another appointment until 25 weeks. Later on they start checking fetal heartbeat, position, and fundal height.

With regards to the urine sample - you will need one for every appointment - I got a sample bottle from my doctors, and do the sample at home before my appointment, I then take it out of my bag, open it, MW dips the stick thing in and I close the bottle, take it home, wash it out well and use it for the next appointment.....it works really well!!

You need to be confident with the care you are receiving though.........so better to nip any concerns in the bud now

I'm sorry you're upset :(
Some areas offer 2 scans in pregnancy, some offer one. It is a shame you are only going to get one :(

It sounds like they did a lot for a first appointment! All they did at mine was weight me, there were no tests.

Birth, the hospital and baby are covered in your antenatal classes in third tri rather than in your midwife appointments so don't worry about them not covering that.

ETA: Midwife appointments always run over, or at least they did at my doctor's practice. Wherever possible, book the first appointment of the day and then you won't have to wait around as much. I've waited over an hour to be seen before

Thats whats so anoying though, i got a letter saying my apointment would last 1:30minutes and we would cover all those topics and get our scan then we just didnt, we just waited and waited. If they never said we'd be doing it then i wouldnt have been upset. Just seemed really daft to me to tell us whats going to happen when it was just a blood test? :(

My local Midwife and the hospital just dont seem to match what each other are saying. My local midwife said i probably wouldnt have a blood test because im not 14 weeks (unless the scan dated me further on than i should be) then the midwife at the hospital said i definatly needed one :wall:

Sounds like there has been a bit of a cock-up somewhere!

I would perhaps contact your midwife and tell her about your experience - if what happened to you wasn't right they should be able to address it.

Thats fecking rediculus! they need to scan for dating!

Hun ring your middy tomorrow and explain what has happened and why you haven't been given a dating scan when you were told so in the letter.

I am so sorry what a horrid day hun!

I agree, it sounds like there has been a cock up hun. Be forceful with them and tell them that you havent had a 12 week scan and dont know how far on you are etc. Sorry you had a rubbish appointment hun

How upsetting for you

Maybe because they could date you at your earlier scan, that's why you didn't get another one? It's still not nice to expect another scan then be disappointed. I had bloods taken at my 12 week appointment, and I have to go again after 15 weeks for some more, so it's normal to have bloods taken at that stage. It's just a shame you're getting such conflicting info from the hospital and midwife

Thanks girls, im feeling a bit better now. I called babybond and theyve offerd me a scan on Sunday afternoon, its a lot of money (£95) but it will be worth it for the reasurance. Jut cant wait to see baby again, im struggleing to believe im even pregnant, keep stareing at my scan and cant get my head around the fact its in my tummy

 Aww good luck hun, posts pics when you get back!!

what time are you booked in for?

Just after 11 i think but it will take me about 2 hours to get home lol
