Hi there,

I'm almost 37 and this is my first pregnancy and I seem to be having a grotty few weeks that are showing no signs of easing

I'm 8 weeks, due to see the midwife for the first time this Thursday and am much looking forward to it.

I seem to experience nausea almost every waking moment, but am never actually sick, am more tired than I have ever been in my life, have little energy and no real appetite to speak of and peeing more than I ever thought posssible! All of this is to be expected I gather, but is having such extrems normal

I am doing the following - eating well, fresh fruit, veggies, grilling lean meat, drinking plenty of water, on decaf tea, cutting out too much sugary stuff etc, exercising with walking and exercise bike most days, sleeping when I need to...

Anyone got any tips other than ginger for the whole morning sickness thing? I am struggling as the smell of ginger turns my stomach  I am finding eating almost every hour, at least a couple of crackers or biccies seems to keep me feeling more steady, but its not always possible. And this is not always something that works, seems to be better during the day really.

Feeling so grotty almost all the time when awake is beginning to make me a bit miserable and frustrated, so any advice would be welcome :)

PS - I don't smoke or drink alcohol at all either.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations :cheer: :cheer:
Sorry you're having a grotty time. It sounds as though you are doing
everything right, sometimes that nausea appears and wont go for love
nor money. Don't worry though it should ease off eventually.

One of the things that have helped me when I feel grotty is sucking on a fruit ice lolly. Not sure why it works for me, but it does. I think different
things work for different people though.

I hope you feel better soon

Im the same, im thoroughly miserable at the moment :( This is actually my 3rd pregnancy, and neither of them were like this. In fact, i sailed through my first!

I am really not enjoying this pregnancy at all so far!

I had several weeks of feeling/being sick all day everyday, only just getting out of that stage. I found snacking helped me. It won't last forever

I cant face eating anything at all though :( Nothing appeals to me, and eating anything is a real struggle. I never feel like im actually going to be sick, its just a constant sicky feeling, a bit like travel sickness. Im scared to take my seabands off, in case i feel much worse!

Congratulations... :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: Sounds like you are very pregnant... :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: It's not for long, I remember getting to 8 weeks, looking up on the internet to how long feeling grotty was supposed to last....and just bursting into tears when I found out I had another four weeks left at least.... It gets better but it don't go away....but I can assure you it's worth it...otherwise I'd never have done it twice. :rotfl:

Awww shame you are having a grotty time. I've nothing to compare this to pregnancy wise, so no idea if my experience is maybe a little more extreme than others or the norm. I certainly didn't bank on feeling so sick every waking moment though. Made worse as I have a bit of a phobia about vomiting as it is, so I am really feeling miserable about it now.

Add the other things on top, and being pregnant has so far proved to be somewhat icky. It's been 3 weeks so am hoping it'll pass soon and I can actually feel good about things. Atm I feel zombified.

I was violently sick just now, and wet myself at the same time   :rotfl:

it was the heaving that did it. my pelvic floor is useless already, better start doing those exercises

I just managed to eat a childs size pizza

surprising actually, considering i read your pee/sick post just before it lol

aw, sorry ur feeling grotty! the first 12 weeks are rough, feels like a bad hangover doesnt it! hope u feel better soon x

Poor you. Morning sickness is just awful. Only pregnant people understand - even women who have had babies tend to forget very quickly how grim it can be. On my first pregnancy my first trimester was really rough. Nothing helped at all either, I got sick of people asking me if i'd tried ginger, or if i'd tried a dry biscuit or piece of toast. Grrr, so annoying.

All I can say is that for most people, it really does pass. You are doing all the right things and eating really well, so at least baby isnt suffering :)

I'm on my second now and it's completely different - hardly any sickness or anything - a little in the early days but cleared up by 7 wks.. so wierd how they can be so different.

Hope it passes soon :D

awh pet
i know how you feel
i eat every hour too, i feel sick all he time, i had some respite at week 7 but for like 4 days and then symptoms came back
off to have another snack now....
not long, lets count the weeks down aye xx

I have a digestive or hovis biscuit before getting up in the morning. Then I sit up on the edge of the bed for a few minutes before standing. I know this sounds really weird but it has made a BIG difference! I still feel slightly nauseous but nothing like before.
I also find that I feel really sick if I'm hungry (how stupid is that!) so I make sure to always have food to hand if I can. And I have to eat a lot! Breakfast, snack about 10.30, lunch, snack around 4, tea around 6 and some more snacking in the evening.
My friend who is also pregnant swears by digestives to help ease the nausea but can only cope with so many of them a day.
I'm off to raid the fridge now! :D
