Its stupid and i shouldnt let it get me down but i kinda felt disappointed and frustrated with this whole food and drink thing with me and ky at the mo...

I went out with the girls from my work (amazingly 5 of us in my work place all got pregnant and had children within the space of 4weeks!!) so all 5 bundles of joy, again amazingly all boys, went out to a cafe for lunch. luckily ky wasnt the worse behaved but his eating habits were definitely worse! much to my horror as we all pulled out our shiny tubs of baby food ky was the only one still on puree! all the others wolfed down their lumpy to slightly mashed foods and proceeded to nicely drink beakers of water or juice :( I cant for the life of me get ky to touch lumps. he has one mouthful, spits it out then point blank refuses to open his mouth. Its been like this for 6ish weeks and hes been weaned since 6months. He also will not touch water no matter what. juice i can tempt him with but under no circumstances will he drink it from a beaker of soft spout ONLY a bottle and maybe half an oz if im lucky.

I really wish i could get him to eat lumps and drink from a beaker, it just made me feel frustrated and down and maybe slightly jealous  i just dont no how to encourage him :wall:

Oh hon you poor love I really feel for you..

I have no advice but just wanted to give you a hug and tell you not to feel bad...

Im sure he will move on to them in his own time... try not to worry. I no people whos babies are a month younger but much further developmentally ahead

thanks girls. developmentally hes not too hot either they could all sit up within 6months, ky finally can without falling over at 8months and 3 of them could crawl! ky has no intention of crawling just yet im not too worried about that as i didnt walk till 2yrs so maybe hes lazy like mummy

im just starting to worry that maybe im doing something wrong and not encouraging him enough to do these things? the eating and drinking situation is really getting me down :( its on my mind constantly. i no i should be happy that hes happy in himself and healthy but i dunno...should i be encouraging him more? i really dont no what else i can do i cant force a beaker or lumps in his mouth.

Ditto - Oliver still doesn't like lumpy food.... His purees HAVE to be smooth.

Although weirdly he's beginning to enjoy finger food now. I've been giving him toast, bread sticks & cheese straws to 'play' with these last few weeks & he rams them in his mouth. Ends up like a hamster though as doesn't particularily like swallowing it, so I end up giving him loads of water to drink to wash it all down!

He drinks water from a cup with spout, but my problem is he won't take milk from ANYTHING except boobies! I've completley dropped one of his milk feeds & keep offering him a bottle or cup instead, but he point blank refuses it. Nightmare as I go back to work in 6 weeks, so will have to drop another feed soon to get him used to going without comeptley whilst I'm at work and only having a breakfast & bedtime feed!

Awww hun u shudnt feel down about it all babies are different.

Ellies not overly keen on lumpy food unless its pudding so at the moment we just give lumpy pudding and puree'd main, she eats finger foods & chews them so im not overly worried.

He will start to do soon enough, just give him some time and keep trying i'd say

Dont have any advice sorry but all I want to say is that all babies are different. It doesnt matter that he may be a bit behind the others, its so easy to compare our babies with other babies but we all learn at different paces and that is still true for little ones. He will get there in the end it may take a little longer but he will get there

Try not to compare altho i know its hard. Ryan only rolled over for the first time today and only isnt anywhere near ready to sit up properly (he sat for ten seconds for the first time 3 days ago) ryans been on 1 meal a day since he was 4 months and i moved him onto 2 meals a day last week and he really hasnt coped well so im just feeding him one meal a day for the time being so i doubt he will be on lumpy food for a looooong time yet. anyway who cares!! as long as they do it eventually thats all that matters!!! I always feel like ryan is sooo under developed but they will do it at there own pace xx

Dont compare him to others - he will move on when he's ready. You can only keep trying him with different things.

He will come on in his own time   all babies do things at different stages, I dont think its anything to worry about

Isaac didn't drink from a beaker until he was 10months old, all LO's progress differently with different learnt skills, don't worry about it, if anyone was judging anything then they are pathetic, he's a baby    Isaac ate food himself from 6months and didn't really do jar food as he wouldn't take a spoon  whereas my best friends daughter who's 2days younger than Isaac, she didn't really bother with solids until much much later, and she loved her puree. It DOESN'T matter if they aren't eating exclusively completely solid food at 8months, you just keep introducing things for him, eat when he does, as Mummy's food is often much nicer anyway  Mini breadsticks and pasta where and still are fave's of Isaac's, but he will find his own, don't be hard on yourself, don't compare, and very best wishes and have some hugs, sounds like a wonderful thing for you all to share your babies together and I'm sure there'll be things Ky does before the others, it doesn't mean nothing, just all LO's are/can be different
