We have a farm called Farmer Teds by us that you can go and see all the animals etc. I was gonna take James but my auntie said i cant go cos im preggers and could pick sommat up...

Is that right??

If so should i also not go to the Zoo cos i was planning on going to the meet at Chester Zoo on Sunday....

Help!

OO just realised this should probably be in ask a mum. SOrry Mods! Move it if you need to...

EDIT:

Lisa&Alex just kindly informed me that i put Sunday for the zoo meet so if i confused anyone i meant Friday.

Jeez preggo brain has MAJORLY kicked in today!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

she is right in a way hun you can get something from sheep and lambs that can cause problems, when i was working our school trip was to a farm and i was advised not to attend but its up to you hun

I wouldn't risk it if I were you Jen. I live in a rural area and was told to avoid farms (especially lambing) throughout at my midwife booking in appointment.

Sh*t I really didnt know about this!!!  Deffo wont take him to Farmer Teds then!! Im surrounded by fields with sheep and cows in!! Cant believe no one told me about this when preggers with James!!

What about the Zoo??

Suspect the Zoo is fine as you're not in close proximity to the animals. However, if it were me I'd ring my midwife and check that just to be on the safe side. You don't want to hurt Pumpkin!! Pretty sure Zoos are fine tho.

you should be fine with the zoo hun its just sheep and i dont think there will be any in a zoo

Sheep: do not help with lambing, handle new-born lambs or come into close contact with sheep who have just given birth as sheep may carry toxoplasmosis, listeriosis or chlamydiosis organisms.

Hi Jen

A zoo is fine hun, if you were to touch any of the animals then obviously wash hands straight after, but you cant touch any animals at Chester zoo so there you go :D

I want to come to Chester Zoo, i love it. However dont think i can have the car that day :(

hon, take a look at this - its only lambing season that you need to be cautious and even then the risks are so infintessimally small that this really shouldn't be something that you worry about. i spent lots of time on the farm next door to my dad's during my pregnancy - i just kept away from the lambing shed.

thanks guys

I will still go to the zoo for sure. If I see any sheep that have happened to wander into the zoo I will just avoid em. lol

Personally I wouldn't worry about going to a farm at this time of year. I was told it was only lambing ewes and newborn lambs that you have to avoid. As long as you're sensible and wash your hands regularly there's no reason why you should miss out completely.

I went to an open farm with Austin in July and just bought one of those alcohol gel things for my handbag so I could keep our hands clean.

my dads a farmer and with both pregnancies i have been pregnant at lambing time, as others have pointed out its lambing time thats the danger i think the toxoplasmosis thingy is in the after birth

Heh I live on a farm. I was fine when PG.

Only thing to avoid is ewes that have lambed and lambs. And any of the afterbirth etc.

Also of course wash hands thorughly once you leave there.

you will be fine at the farm.. its not lambing season anyways.. jsut keep ur hands on the buggy.. :D not on sheep bums :D

Listen love its you who we need to watch..being from Wales and all.....

Look out for calves and cows too, Johnes disease can cause miscarrage (told by ex boyfriend who was a farmer).

Sandi

You should be fine. Just as someone else has pointed out, wash your hands after touching the animals. People live everyday in the countryside as do we & I wouldn't be worried living here if I was pregnant even though we have stray animals coming through the fences! :)

I would go, I went to kiddies farms all the time when I was preg, don't feed the animals and wash your hands often :)

Well ive decided im gonna go. I will just wash my hands. James will LOVE it. :cheer:

We live next to a field full of sheep and i was fine with james when i was preggers so i will just be cautious.

thanks for the advice guys!

Its only lambs you need to be careful of, my husband was born and bred on a farm (thinking about it that may not be such a good example being the twit he is sometimes  )
I spent loads of time on the farm but just not near any sheep.
