Can this stuff still be bought? I wouldnt ask my hv, social services would be round in a flash.

Stuarts mum used to put it in a bottle with his formula. It was for babies that were super hungry. Its frowned upon these days :( but im having such bother with joe and his feeding and mil says its just the same as what dh was like. Ive given him a wee bit of mashed rusk on a spoon with his milk and he is a bit more content. I know he is only 4 weeks but im at a loss, he took over 35oz yesterday and isnt fooled by the water.

35oz???

so how many bottles is he having how often?

Harley was terrible at Joes age he was having 6-7 oz bottles every 3 hrs night and day. now hes well over weight poor fat nacker

Have you tried SMA White or equivilent?

If it's that dodgy I wouldn't give it to him!
Try hungry baby milk, rusk probably isnt the best thing to try at 4 weeks old.

he is on the hungry baby milk, thats what he had the 35oz of. Usually in 5oz bottles but sometimes he would take 6 and sometimes he would take the 5oz over 2 hours. He just wants to be full.

Its not that the farex is dodgy, its just an older way of doing things. Everyones mum will probably know what it is.

He takes well to the rusk, it seems to be taking the edge off the hunger and his bowel movements are the same if not a little better. Im not too keen on giving it to him at this age but if it was good enough for his daddy then what can i do.

Hi Laura

I think I saw Farex in Boots in the St Enoch Centre the other week - if it was, this was a box of baby cereal?

Lucy

Thanks Lucy,
Im not too sure what form it came in. I dont see it anywhere so I might give boots a call.
Thanks

Laura

my mum

when i was six weeks old used to give me a spoonful of baby food and apparentely that worked.

Charlotte is 7 weeks old and she is drinking 8 oz of hungrier baby milk and still waking up for another 4-5oz 2 hours later. i dont class that as 2 bottles cz they just dont make bottles big enough for her. my mum told me to use farex, but i just cant find it anywhere. so my mother inlaw told me to feed her a bit of babyrice on a spoon before a bottle. so im off to get some later. will let everyone know if it works.

I checked with my pharmacy and they dont make it anymore.
The rusk is having limited success, it is taking the edge of his hunger but I think he would take it at every feed if I offered it. Im not tho, just morning and night. He is still getting up 2 times a night but Im now resigned to the fact this is the way its going to be.

There is a difference to getting up for a quick feed than getting up with a furiously hungry baby who drinks that fast that his wind is bad.

I hope the rice works for you littlemoo.

Hi Laura

Hmm not sure what I saw in Boots then, it was definately a box that began with FA..... I wasn't looking at it specifically (if I had seen your thread before I went shopping I would have paid more attention!). I was getting in Organix fruit purees.

Ok, bearing in mind I don't bottle feed and this is your second baby, please ignore me if I don't know what I'm talking about (!) but are you using any specialist bottles like Dr Browns to help minimise wind? What size teat are you using?

What's wee Joe's weight doing at the moment? Is he gaining well?

Hope you get some rest soon,

Lucy x

HiyaLucy,
I totally appreciate your help  , albeit this is baby number 2 im as much in the dark this time as I was the first time. Joe is a totally different kettle of fish to Jessica.

Im using mam anti colic bottles and im using a bigger teat to minimise how much air he is gulping. He just wants to feed, feed feed. Im back to my colocynth crystals.

Its a minefield just now.

Im thinking about it Kina, im a bit scared to as i know they will be cross about the rusks but if he is hungry and the milk doesnt do it for him what do you do. Its a shame as when you put the bottle to his mouth he is rooting for it like he is starving but after a wee bit rusk he has this lovely contented look. It doesnt last long. He is so long, he is going to tower over me when he is older.

Laura every thing you say about joe sounds just like how Harley was, Harley is now well over weight. but hes eased of now that he is spoon fed.

but harley was like it and it never passed untill he reached 4months and i started spoon feeding. its so tiring

but if you think that the rusks is helping Joe then thats a good x
