I'm making an appointment with my Family Planning Clinic to enquire about "Nexplanon". I'm a bit upset about this, I was strongly advised by numerous medical professionals to have this put in, now it's failure rate has soared x

On a serious note, I've heard a lot about how unreliable these implants are too, and a few of my friends have advised against getting it because of the high failure rates these days.

I think that people should be made fully aware of ALL the pros and cons of a contraceptive method before they're allowed to use it, and that includes the failure rates and improper insertions of this implant!

Otherwise, what's the point?

Exactly! Grrrr, I know nothing is 100% but 99.95% is the highest you can get, apart from abstinence! I had really bad bruising and tenderness for weeks after it was put in, so for all I know mine isn't in right I was going with the pill, but was told "Implanon is the way, most reliable, best contraceptive yet"..

Theoretically, it would be, but it's negligence on the medical proessional's behalf if it fails to go in right (or at all!).
Surely there's a way they can check it?!

Apparently not, in that article it says it's not detectable on x-rays! This "new" one can be seen though, I think I'm gonna push for it x

I had one but had it removed as I had a reaction to it.

I read the article and dont understand how the Dr wouldnt know that the implant is there if not released from the device, as part of the procedure after it is inserted is for the Dr and the patient to feel it is there. If its not in properly the Dr should be able to feel its not right! IDK???

I've got it in I had it in after zander and i didn't get pregnant so I'm alright plus if I did get pregnant my sil and bil have been trying for a baby for like 17yrs now and we were talking about surogacy not long ago.

I've not been on the pill for nearly 9 years. I hated it. Put on weight, mood swings were awful etc.

However, since being preggers and not having to use condoms with hubby we enjoyed sex a lot more. I have been thinking about contraception and contemplating the pill/coil/implant etc.

How have you ladies found the implant compared to the pill? I hated the fact that the pill made my sex drive practically non existent and that is what puts me off. Knowing you've got the implant Evie makes me feel positive though as I know you're still a randy mare!

I had implanon in for about a year and a half and it worked for me

It did make me crazy though. Im not even overreacting. I have never been so hormonal in my life, hence why I had it removed.

I've still got the same sex drive - if not higher I had it for just over a year before. I bled for a good while but then it stops for ages and ages I tend to just take a test every now and then just to be sure

We have a lot of sex, and it has been fine so far, but what they're saying is that they might have put it in too deep or something, so far it's brilliant, I love it, but I will be asking about the "Nexplanon".. Some women complained about theirs feeling like a "boomerang" shape.. It's just worried me a bit x

yeah lol a surprise is the word lol and when I was on the implant there I was on the pill too lol and I have the implant this time so impraying that it works xx
