Family history

Hi all, I have the midwife next friday and I know I have to tell her about my family history. Now, 2 weeks before she fell for me my mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and refused all treatment to carry me. We were both only given 10-20% of survival to birth, we both made it through unscathed and they removed her ovaries during the caesarian.
She didn't have cysts carrying my sister but she did with me and now I have them too. This is my main health worry and I am so frightened something is going to go horribly wrong with them during my pregnancy. I know they don't affect the baby directly and am desperately trying not to think about it too much.
Was just wondering if anyone knows exactly how much family history could affect pregnancy in later generations?

hard to tell, the best judge of that will be your midwif, when she takes all the info she will do a risk assessment on you and you can ask her directly, its not something i would trust us lot answering as things like cancer are very serious and id advise just listening to a medical professional

if she doesnt feel its a big deal she will let you know and you will have to trust her

if she feels its is your also need to trust that they are going to look after you to the best of their abilities but if EVER you feel that your not getting 100% support from them you must put your foot down hun ok

Thanks roxanne, yeah I'm not expecting any medical advice but just wondered if anyone else had had stuff like this inherited and if they were told anything.....hormones don't help do they lol xxxxxxxxxxx

i think they may just monitor you carefully to make sure it doesnt cause you any grief, my friend only had an underactive thyroid and she was put under consultant care lol

personally i think they will send you to see a consultant just to discuss that issue and from there they will decided either to put u back under midwife care ot consultant care.

They've put me under consultant care for something quite minor, so imagine for something more important like this then you will be the same. I'm sure the midwife will take your concerns very seriously and mine was lovely - said I could ring her at any point to discuss anything. Good luck. xxx

Some good advice here..... I saw the mw last Thursday and looking at my history she did extra bloods and I'm seeing a consultant on Monday (for underactive Thyroid which I've had since birth). She also is keeping an eye on me because my mum had postnatal depression with both me and my brother so mw just wanted to make sure that I'm ok during and after birth. I have to say I've had fantastic care so far.

My top tip is if you are worried about something and nobody seems to be taking notice push until you see a specialist or at least are reassured. I changed hospitals because the first one I was at was so rubbish (long story!). My GP refused to refer me to my preferred hospital saying I had to stay in my area, I called the hospital I wanted to go to and they said I could self refer - I did and they have been fabulous.
