Ok - I was beginning to get my fitness back before I got pg but then because I miscarried last time, my doc told me to take it easy so I haven't really been exercising for the last 18 weeks.

She told me recently that we could
a) have sex again

b) start exercising - forced walking is out though as it may make me puffy. She said swimming would be ideal.

I have been to the swimming pool and to my horror cannot manage more than two lengths at a time without getting breathless. But my question is...

how breathless is dangerous?

I know we're supposed to avoid getting overheated, dehydrated or too breathless - just wondered if breathless just meant getting out of puff?

Not sure of the answer but i think you've got to try not to get your heart rate up too much. Swimming is really good for you though and i'm going to start going more frequently if i can. Just have a break every couple of lengths if you need to and take it easy.

Before I got preg I was a 3-4 times a week in the gym and since i got my bfp I havent been :o I have put on a stone and feel so gross, and wobbly.

Im going to go back to the gym this week but not push myself but do enough to feel as though I have 'exercised'.I know you arent supposed to get to the point where you feel too tired, just gentle exercise is the best, actually beneficial for labour so they say! Bring it on! I just dont want my arse to be too flabby after baby is born, its going that way and I know when she is here, I will use all the baby excuses to eat this and that, not exercise, be too tired etc etc. If i go back now psychologically i hope it will help.

I have tried to stay active throughout my pregnancy, and until I hit 30 weeks I was still walking the dog 2-3 miles a day - Im now down to walking her a mile a couple of times a week as my body cant physically do anymore (DH has to walk her the rest of the time) :D

Swimming is supposed to be the best form of exercise in pregnancy, followed by walking - you dont have to do forced walking, just a gentle 20 mins stroll is all you need........its good for you and very good for the baby!

I have been puffed and out of breath a few times recently, epecially with this cold weather and my recent flu bug, but I dont force my body to do more than its capable of.

Start gently and work your way up..........swim a length, have a rest for a couple of mins, then swim another length and gradually build up some stamina!!

Good luck with it...........
