Hi everyone. I'm a newbie to the forum and was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice...

Have just found out I'm pregnant (nearly 7 weeks) after a mc at 11 weeks just before Xmas (twins). I want to be excited  but I'm absolutely terrified the same thing will happen again  . Am trying to do all the right things (reduce caffeine, stop alcohol, etc) but hate the feeling of not being in control - I don't think I have the patience (or stress levels!) to wait for the 12 week scan.

Has anyone had an early pregnancy scan or know anything about them? Are they easy to get? Also, is there anyone else out them in a similar situation to me? Would be nice to have a bit of company!!

By the way, big congrats to everyone else on this forum  .

Hi Eve,

Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your pregnancy! Of course you'll be anxious, that's perfectly normal (even more so when you've already gone through a m/c). I just wanted to tell you about my cousin - she went through a m/c of a long-awaited pregnancy at 12 weeks last year (they told her that the baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks). She was absolutely devastated and had told everyone about her pregnancy. A few months later, she was pregnant again - she's due next month! Miscarriage is very common - we realise that there are so many more early miscarriages these days due to highly accurate, early testing.

I just wanted to let you know that you can have a successful pregnancy after m/c. I hope that you have a happy, healthy pregnancy. My cousin did get more scans this time around and has felt reassured by them, but it's natural you'll worry in the first trimester - we all do!

I'll look forward to your posts as you progress :D Congratulations again.

Congratulations Eve

I have not been in your situation but my heart goes out to you, it seems a perfectly normal reaction to have. From what I have learnt on here a lot of women who have had previous mc have been scanned early but that is not something I know too much about.

My sister in law just went to the local hospital and registered there instead of at the local midwives and asked for an early scan and she got one. I guess it might be a case of just keep asking and badgering, failing that a private scan is always another option, I had one at 6 weeks and one at 9 weeks.

I hope everything goes well for you

Hey and congratulations!

I had a MC at 6 weeks in September last year, I have been terrified all through this pregnancy! I told my doctor that there was a chance i could be carrying twins this time (as it runs in my family) and I was being sick a lot very early on, and I also told the doc that I wasn't a 100% sure of the dates of my pregnancy as I had had a very light period before hand.

Both were true, but by telling my doc she immediately arranged an early scan to check dates and if there was just one baby. I went for and early scan at 7 and half weeks and saw my baby and its heartbeat. The chances of MC are greatly reduced if you see your babys heartbeat at 8 weeks.

You can always get a private scan to check how things are going, they charge about £75 by me.

Good luck and try not to worry too much.

Piglet xx

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. Have decided to at least have a chat with the midwife anyway to see what the options for early scans are in my area.

Most importantly, the fact that you all congratulated me on getting pregnant in the first point suddenly made me more excited about the whole thing! Will keep you all posted x

That's the spirit, Eve! Your pregnancy is great news, so feel chuffed. Go badger that midwife and let us know how you get on in the coming weeks, months, years... :D

Hi Eve,

I had exactly the same, lost one baby last year and worried so much this time round that I panicked and went to my doctors, I know its a bit sneaky but I told her I had really bad stomach cramps because I knew she would send me for a scan straight away!! It was worth it because as soon as my o/h and I saw the heartbeat at only 7 weeks we both felt like everything would be fine. I am now just over 10 weeks and I am so much more relaxed than I would have been otherwise,

Best of luck,

Evie x

Spoke to midwife and she's fixed up a scan for Monday - fingers crossed!
Thanks all x

wow - that's super speedy service, Eve! Even though it'll still feel like a lifetime away to you, eh?

I hope they get a clear view for you.

Let us know how you get on.
xx

congrats on your BFP and good luck for the scan
