i have a thing that every one that comes to visit my baby and wants to hold him should wash their hands first, seems he is only 3days old and 5weeks prem!

kris thinks i sound rude when i ask them to go wash there hands. i defo tell the smokers but i have let a few preople that dont smoke get away with it.

were any of you the same about washing hands? is it normal for me to be like this?

i was wondering you no that stuff they have in the hospital u squirt it on ya hands then just rub it in till its dry. can i get it in the shops? then if i have that next to Harley i might not seem so rude to ask them to squirt some in there hands??????

opinions please... do i sound rude?

I don't blame you hun :)
You can buy that stuff, I've even seen it in the pound shop. The one I've seen is called "hands so clean" it's in a clear bottle with blue writing but I'm sure boots would sell their own one too.

I would be deffo the same with smokers, but not anyone else unless their nails look manky lol and I think good on you for telling them to do so :)

I never worried about it unless they were smokers,

They need germs to build thier immune system, but i agree cos Harley is prem i would be careful.

Your doing the right thing :D

:) I wouldn't think it rude if you asked me,I'd just think you were a concerned and sensible mother.
I know it's not the same,(well it is really)but when I have had puppies I have been the same, especially if they have dogs of their own - you never know what anyone is bringing in with them!Getting some of the gel is a good idea!
Hope you are feeling okay Dionne, hope Dior is looking after her little baby brother!!

No you don't sound rude At all, you are just being careful.

I was exactly the same and Aimee wasn't prem so I don't blame you. I used to ask everyone if the had a cold or anything too before i let them hold her. Its not them thats going to have to look after a sick baby is it!

Not rude at all hun! I asked everyone to wash their hands before holding Damien until he hit his due date, then I started to relax. I washed my hands everytime I even picked him up.

So glad you got your little man home so early - he must be a strong little lad :D

I don't think you're being rude. However it is worth remembering that the majority of babies have better immune systems then us :D I was even worse with smokers, in our antenatal we were told to make smokers wait til 45 mins before they went near the baby, so I made them wait an hoiur lol.

I dont think thats rude at all. Its never actually occured to me but if I went to someones house and they asked me I would do it without thinking anything.
You can get that stuff for your hands in pharmacies in small bottles, in fact I might get some for my bag.

I carry squirty stuff round with me - the thought of the kids touching the taps in public toilets makes me sick so they get a squirt afterwards.

When Alex was about two months old, the rest of the family came down with sickness and runny bums. My mum is always being sarcastic about my germ paranoia, but at least me and Alex didn't get the bug.

Not rude at all! I got a small bottle of that stuff in Sainsbury's but I've seen it in Boots and Superdrug too I think. I have one in the bag I sling on the back of my buggy as it's very handy if you're out. I started using it when we went to Glastonbury every year as you do not want to get a tummy bug with those toilets!

Dionne,

We just recently bought some from a chemist.

Wasn't cheap but it lasts a long way - £4.99. We got addicted to it after being on the cruise a few weeks ago. You had to use it everywhere on the ship to avoid causing an outbreak of somesort......

If someone asked me to wash my hands before touching bubs I wouldn't be offended at all. Another reason why I want a baby sling and not a pram in the first few weeks.....keeps the Pregnancy Police away!

i got some of that stuff from body care when i was back in uk i think it was 99 pence, as for people washing their hands i would def get them too when Abi was in SCBU everyone who entered had to wash their hands and then when she came home from hospital they gave me a poster to put in my window saying something like

My baby girl is still premature if you have a cold or bug please inform me before you enter as a little cold to you mans hospital for my baby, it really worked too :)

Glad your little man is home it was the hardest leaving Abi there :(

No way mate, id be the same with my baby...you can never be too careful.

Lol Beanie - I was like that with smokers too - wouldnt believe I used to smoke almost 30 a day

We have the Milton hand gel which is brilliant - just a squirt and rub your hands and it disspears taking all the little nasties with it. I have some in my utility room for when I make up the bottles and a bottle in my changing bag) Get it from Tescos I think.
