everyone wont agree but...

i dont understand, someone put it in common persons terms for me please!!!

When you got married you used to get either a tax cut or extra tax credits (not entirely sure though).

I didn't realise it didn't happen anymore until I rang up to tell the NI people that I was married and they were like "And??" :rotfl:

Every person gets a certain amount of money that they can earn without having to pay tax. The petition is basically saying that when one person in a couple stays at home to look after children their tax allowance should be passed on to their partner, so they pay less tax overall.

Does that makes sense?

I've signed

ah right, so thats what my father in law was woffling on about when we got married :rotfl:

I'm quite surprised how many people signed because I always got the impression people thought I was lazy for staying at home with kieran  I was going to get a job when hew started school but my OH decided we should have a baby after we got married lol!!! (not that I mind!!!)

anyone who thinks you are lazy for wanting to stay at home with your son obviously doesnt have kids lol!!

Thats what gets me mad about this society sometimes, women are made to feel lazy or old fashioned simply for wanting to be a stay-at-home mum. Its wrong, its purely individual choice wether you want to stay at home or go out to work and both have their negatives and positives, but it should be each individuals choice and thiers alone to make with pride!

Not sure why anyone would label this as supporting traditional family values tho ( on the petition) - I used to get married man's tax allowance as a single mum... :D

Yeah I agree, I wouldn't feel right if I wasn't there to pick Kieran up from school or have time to go through his reading book and spellings etc. Not that I am saying working mothers are in the wrong- each to their own. I personally just like to stay at home and be just a mother and wife :)

And for me to work half 9 til half 2 would not allow me to earn more than our housing benefit and tax credits give us. If I work nights I would only see kieran on weekends, as he would be in bed when I got in and at school all day. So it seems to be a no win situation for me!!!
