Spent the day very excited cos mum arriving at the airport at 6:45pm. Connor slept for 3 hours at lunchtime but instead of waking him I decided to let him sleep so that he could come to the airport with us to meet Grannie off the plane. Got to the airport about 7pm to find out that the airline had lost mums luggage. So in the end we didnt get home til 9:30pm, minus the suitcase. Connor went straight to bed very tired. We went to bed about 10:30pm after showing mum a few things with regard to looking after Connor.
At midnight I woke up to discover my waters had broken! Woke Steve up who said oh for gods sake cant I have a few more hours!!!! Rang the hospital who told me to come in. Poor mum was a bit shocked! Luckily I had written out a list of the average day for Connor so that she was able to refer to that for his food & nap times etc whilst we were in hospital.

Arrived at hospital at 010am. Was examined and found to be 2/3cm dilated, very excited as I thought it hadnt been too painful up to that point. Hooked me up to a monitor to check the babys heartbeat. All was well. Contractions very irregular sometimes 10mins apart sometimes 5mins but still bearable. Kept needing the loo every twenty mins or so, so they kept having to unclip me from all the monitors etc.
Steve went for a sleep about 3am. By 5am I went to wake him as I felt the contractions were getting stronger. Had an injection to help the pain. Decided against an epidural as I was able to breathe through the contractions.
Was examined again and only found to be 3cm dilated still. Very disappointed I think I cried at this point, I had assumed after all this time I would be about 5/6cm.
Nurses said I could have hydrotherapy, basically a Jacuzzi. Went along to the hydrotherapy room and got in for about 10mins before deciding I needed the loo once again so that was the end of that!!
By 13:30pm I was 5cm dilated and in LOADS of pain, gripping the side of the bed with every contraction and screaming my head off. They kept offering me gas and air but I refused as that had made me throw up last time. Instead they gave me an analgeasic through a mask which helped but was making me feel really claustrophobic! By this stage I was really scared cos I knew the pain would only get worse and it was really hurting now, too late for an epidural oh no!
By about 14:15pm I was wanting to push. The nurses called for the doctor who said I could start to push. So in three quarters of an hour Id got to 10cm dilated. No wonder it was so painful. I was delighted to be told I could start pushing but the pain was bad.
At every contraction Steve was there encouraging me to hold my head up and push down. He was holding my hand and fanning me as I was sooo hot! He complained afterwards that his wrist ached from all the fanning haha!
At 14:45 Erin Brooke was born into the world. They held her upside down and she started screaming immediately. They took her for suction and cleaning up before bringing her back to me for my first cuddle.
I found out afterwards that I had been ready to push long before the doctor was called. Also the cord was wrapped around her neck twice. Both these things frightened me when I found out but I was just so pleased that she was safe and sound and the pain was over.
After two nights in hospital we came home on the Wednesday. Big brother Connor has been really good so far and I am trying to come to terms with the guilt over not being able to spend so much time with him. I keep looking at my daughter and thinking how beautiful she is, and how lucky we are to have two perfect children. Never again though!!!
