Hi everyone

I am 6 weeks pregnant but for the past few days I have been getting severe pain in my groin/pelvis area, so bad that I can't walk when the pain strikes and it lasts up to 20 mins at a time. I went to A + E who referred me to EPAC. My concern at the time was not about miscarriage or ectopic but could it be very early SPD. Either way, I had an ultrasound at EPAC yesterday and to my suprise there was no gestational sac. My pregnancy test was positive and I haven't had any bleeding.

They took bloods which came back high for progesterone and as they thought it could be that I was potentially earlier than 6 weeks which is why there was no sac, they said they remain cautiously optimistic as my HCG levels ‘where what they would expect to find at a pregnancy too early to be seen on ultrasound’. They said to me if I get any one sided pain or shoulder tip pain then to come back and have scheduled me repeat blood tests for Friday to see if HCG levels are doubling/increasing slowly/ decreasing.

I wasn’t worried at all and said to my OH that I am confident it is just earlier than we thought and the pain I’m getting is pelvic girdle/spd. HOWEVER, this morning, I have started to get short stabbing pains in my left hand side and then later on in the morning I started to get pain in my left shoulder. It’s not shoulder tip but more like my collar bone with some pain nearish to the top of my left upper arm (similar to when you have an injection in your arm!). Neither pain in my side or my shoulder is constant but it comes and goes and it#s not excruciating, the pain in my side just takes my breath away a little.

I don’t know if this is my mind playing tricks on me or even if this pain is characteristic of an ectopic but its got me very worried!!

I’ve left a message for EPAC and my GP but haven’t heard back from either.

Any advice would be appreciated!

xx

As someone who has recently had an ectopic pregnancy the shoulder pain was the very last thing I noticed and it wasn't excruciating until about 2 hours before I went for surgery. It was where your arm meets your shoulder. When it ruptured I was in a lot of pain. I couldn't walk, was passing out and had very low blood pressure. Before that the pains I had were one sided mostly and felt like a stitch. I had them for a whole month before it had ruptured and I had the surgery.

Did they say what your hcg levels were? This time round I had a scan at 5 weeks and there was an intrauterine sac at what would have been 3000 beta hcg level.
