Eating peanuts during pregnancy

ive been eating peanuts , and when i was toddler pretty much all i ate with peanuts!!

i'm of the opinion that its the avoiding of things that causes allergie. when the substances come along in later life, immune systems arent prepared !

kids that grow up with animals dirt and eating whatever's going on the whole dont tend to have the allergies and asthma problems ...of course that is a generalisation but it makes sense to me, you dont get many farm kids with hayfever!!

OMG that must have been scary, hope he is ok now

It is true though, you don't know that what you are doing is for the best or not. I must admit I have had a couple of handfuls of nuts through this pregnancy, I haven't eaten any more or any less than I would have normally, and haven't avoided them completely.

thats the thing... i love peanuts and i have hayfever and partner has ecsama (SP) so i thought i best avoid them total as advised!! Can you imagen how bad i would have felt if i did eat them and then Ellis still got an allergie!!

xxxxx

That sounds worrying, I'm glad he's doing better now. I do feel for you,it must have been awful

I read the whole peanut debate and decided that even though I am asthmatic (not a childhood sufferer) I'd eat them in pregnancy. I don't go out of my way to munch them, but have eaten Satay a few times, the odd snickers bar and so on.

I think it worried me when I read the UK having the highest rates of nut allergy in Europe and we are the only ones to advise pregnant women to avoid them totally  Nut allergy rates have soared here since that was considered the safest thing to do. Now they are revising this opinion.

Thank you for posting this

my MW told me at booking in appointment, if theres a family history of nut allergy to avoid them during pregnancy. but there isnt so ive been scoffing peanut butter sandwichs :rotfl:

Im sorry to hear about your experience though, must have been so scary

thats what i was told aswell so i asked everyone before i ate then jst ate lool

So I don't have to feel guilty about having some snickers bars anymore?

I have eaten them too.. We dont have a history of nut allergiesi in our families I read somewhere thats when you need to avoid them.

I just couldnt give up my crunchy nut cornflakes!!

I hope he's ok now, sounds scary

I've been eating peanuts occassionally during pregnancy despite having asthma and ezcema as a child. There are no nut allergies in my family.
I ate them when pg with James too and he can eat nuts no problem. I think I avoided giving them to him until he was about 3 though

I'm a bit confused. I've had asthma, i've got exczema (sp?) and i get bad hayfever so technically i should be avoiodng nuts alltogether? Or just peanuts?
I am not a huge nut eater (that phrase made me giggle) and so i don't think i've eaten any during pregnancy, i have avoided peanuts.

Peanuts afaik. But the Gov advice is being reviewed at this time as to if they need to be avoided after all.

TBH, I don't hold much in it at all. I'm asthmatic and suffer hayfever but I'm eating peanuts on occasion. I fall into the camp that thinks not eating them at all is more likely to make my child allergic. If I eat them in pregnancy it is more likely for my child to develop a tolerance to them in the womb. Women elsewhere eat them and allergy rates are lower.

The UK rates of peanut allergy have soared since the medical advice was changed to women not eating them when PG. No other European country advises women to avoid eating them like we do here  We have the highest allergy rate in Europe. Go figure  :wall:

I've avoided peanuts, soft scoop ice-cream etc but I honestly don't think that it would have made an ounce of difference had I not.

Sorry to hear what happened to your son. That must have been really scary! :( I hope he is better now.

I'm desperate for a peanut butter sandwich! GAGGING in fact!!!
