Hi, I have had my Down's test results today, they have said that I am not at high risk and have given me the odds of 1 in 534 for having a down's baby, it is alittle higher than what I was wanting, what does everyone else think??

That's a low risk. Anything over 1:250 is low risk so I'd be pleased with that :)

 I know what you mean about worrying over every little thing. That is considered low risk though - I'd be pleased with that too :)

I feel sorry for people who get a 1:249 result.....that's the problem with a cut off point isnt it.

wow :yay: thats a fantastic result i would be extatic!!!! :yay: x x x

I wasn't given risk factor when I had my nuchal fold scan - does this mean I am low risk?

Hi, when did you receive your screening result? I was told I would receive a telephone call within 5 working days if I was high risk and a letter within two weeks if the risk was low. It's now been just over three weeks since my scan and I haven't heard anything. Do I need to follow this up or am I just being my usual impatient self?

I had to have a blood test as bubs would not turn over, my results took less than a week, it wouldn't hurt to give them a call but I am sure that if you were high risk you would of had a call by now

I came back high risk (1:120) at 29 and got a phonecall less than a week after getting the blood test. Decided to get anmio which came back normal and from that they told me I'm having a wee boy :)

god i didnt wnat the test because from the facts and general rules on paper i was looking at 1:1500

was i being silly?

no not silly at all. I think Ive been more silly. Im having the blood test and Ive now decided I dont want the amnio . there is a 1 in 100 risk of miscarriage after the amnio so unless its a very high risk by going through amnio Im causing more potential problems. But thats my opinion cos I wouldnt end the pregnancy anyway if I was told my baby has down syndrome and I think thats a decision that is very personal, so really you've just got to do whats right for you. I think my OH would want to end the pregnancy so in a way maybe it wouldve been better if we agreed not to find out.

I think unless you are thinking of ending the pregnancy, why have the test? I had it without really thinking about it and got a letter today saying in my chance is 1:3200.

Tigerbounce, you are classed as low risk so I really wouldnt worry. They wouldnt class you as low risk if there was any signs of problems! xxx

Im not having that test i do not believe in it.

i would prob take the blood test but not the actualy needle in tummy i aint risking another miscarriage which there is a risk of that i would rather love a baby with down syndrome than risk losing me baby.

sorry if i sound harsh on this subject the way my midwife was going on about this with me i cud of hit her lol x

no I agree with you. Its fair enough. It all depends on your family and what you think you could cope with. If you think you would be so devistated to have a child with Down syndrome and that you wouldnt be able to cope, maybe it isn t fair to bring them into the world. Im lucky that Im specialising in child development in downs syndrome in my work and work with preschool children with the syndrome. I think Im well prepared to deal with it if my child does have it. Some children with downs are getting GCSEs these days because we know how to helo them in the early years they are doing really well. The adults with Downs we see today didnt have any of that really. And a lot were brought up in institutions so you wonder how much of thier disability is a result of thier environment. We've got a whole new generation of much more able people with Downs syndrome who are doing college courses and getting jobs.

Im preeching, sorry! This is just my opinion and its not guaranteed that the child will do really well, some children with Downs seem to have more severe learning difficulties than others so you are taking that risk if you choose to continue with the pregnancy.

Not an easy decision at all. Especially if you dont know a lot about Downs syndrome and what you might be choosing.

i didnt want to have it because either way i will want to keep my baby x

I had the blood test done last time but don't even plan on having that this time as downs / edwards syndrome wouldn't effect my love for my ickle bubba :D
