Ok I've got a good question for you guys

Me and hubby have now agreed that instead of just Faruq Uthman it'll be Mohammad Farooq Uthman :cheer: Which I'm well chuffed about because that makes it a very strong and well balanced name (meanings wise) :D

Now the thing is that Mohammad is actually more of a title than anything else and so when we register him (ok ok - I know he's not due for another 6 weeks! ) I need to make sure that Mohammad and Faruq are both listed as the first names with no middle name, just a surname. Then at school and nursery etc we'll just ask people to call him Faruq :D

It's pretty common practise and even my father is law has it. He's offically Mohammad Shahzad (...etc...) on legal documents but everyone just calls him Shahzad as his first name.

The thing is, how are you meant to write it??
Because I'm worried that by directly joining them with a - it'll change the meanings (i.e Mohammad-Faruq)
Would you just be able to write both names spaced out seperately in the first name box and leave the middle name blank (then obviously just fill in the surname box too)?

I know sometimes people wont realise and will call him Mohammad but it's easy enough to correct after the first time they do it :D

Uhhhh *thinks*

You shouldn't need the -

Just make sure when you go to register (we were not allowed to fill out the paperwork, the registrar did it and we had to spell it all out and then double check the print out before it was finalised) you state its all his first name, no hyphen.

Should be fine :)

Thanks, I thought you should be able to just put the two names with a space but I wanted to check.

Like I said I know banks and doctors etc may only call him by the first part by mistake to start with but these days most places have a box saying 'preferred name' or something similar, so we should be able to get things sorted pretty easily :D

I knew a girl at high school who was called Salma but for some reason she didn't want anyone to know and instead called herself Sally :D The only time her name ever seemed to come up was in the new school year if she had a class with a teacher she'd never had before. First register call everyone would be looking around thinking "who's Salma?? :? " but she'd have a quiet word and it'd always be Sally from then on
So it shouldn't be too hard

Full name will mean - Praiseworthy, distinguisher between truth and falsehood, (strong) like a lion :cheer:

I was wondering why there are so many poeple named mohammed (makes sense now)

Claire x
