I need your advice ! I would love to get a pup I have seen aoibheann with my mums dig and she loved him it's so sweet . But I have several reservations . Would I be crazy as I have another baby due in July ? Would it be cruel to a puppy ? Also what breed would be best ? Honest opinions would be Much appreciated , I would hate to be making a mistake for a puppy or my daughter .

Hey there.
I dont really have much advice apart form i know people do say that it is better to bring a puppy into a family with a baby than bring a baby into a family where there is a puppy. Its all to do with jealousy really as the baby would be coming into the pups house. But if the baby is already there then the pup will not think any different if you get me?

Also my sister has 3 Border collies and she brought her baby into that family last year and the dogs are brill with her and she is now 7 month. So i suppose it just depends really. I hope this helps you a little :)

My cousin has five children, all under the age of 7.
She just had her fifth child and her border collie puppy is about 7 months now.
She got him whilst she was pregnant (and whilst she had 3 little one's to look after, as well as a toddler!)
Puppy's are hard work and they will stress you out a little :P My cousin broke down whilst she was pregnant because of the puppy, he was chewing all sorts in her house! My mum just calmed her down and told her it's to be expected and that he'll stop soon. I've had 3 puppy's in my life myself as well as a 9 month old dog once too, we have a rottweiler puppy at the moment. I'd definitely recommend a border collie or a labrador, or any type of family dog like that. They're both very intelligent dogs and very friendly, but of course it all goes down to how they are brought up, and I'm sure growing up with your family the puppy will be a big ball of loveliness!

I have a Labrador Cross Border Collie, A full breed Border Collie, A Rottweiler puppy.
I've also owned an American Pitbull cross Mastiff. Such a lovely bunch of dogs all of them have been to me, a pain in the bum sometimes though!

If you definatly want one then get one after the baby is born. The puppy won't get any jealousy issues then. It's better to get one when they're babies as I know someone with a puppy and a 3yr old and they're having a bit of time of it lately..she's hanging onto the lo, nipping etc.

Be prepared for hard work though! When I brought my dog home she chewed everything!!! She used to shit everywhere too (owners said she was papertrained..pile of bollocks!)

I can't really recommend a breed but I have a staff and she's good as gold with my kids.

Thanks ladies , after some though i'm going to wait until baby is at least 6 month - a year old . I dont want jealousy issues and somehow i think with two kids under two i'll have my hands seriously full :)
