My stomach is doing flips even typing this.

Right to start.. i'm scared of flying. Not just a teeny bit scared I mean to point where if I see a plane in sky I have to watch it to make sure it's not going to crash

Anyway I have been on a plane before. A few times in fact. First time was when I was 14 to tenerife, loved it. Next yr I returned to Tenerife. Again no problems.

3rd time was a problem. Not on way there but on way home. I was with my Nana and cousin and the plane had really bad turbulence and the emergency lights came on. I really thought we were gonna die.

The last time I flew I was 17, going on a girly holiday to Magaluf. I didn't want to fly cos of previous experience but thought i'd be ok. Well I wasn't. I went hysterical. Crying, kept having to run to the loo cos was literally pooping myself (   ) In the end the air hostess took me in to see the pilot and he showed me stuff and really calmed me down. I went back to seat and the rest of the flight was fine. On the way back though my fear was back and again I was being sick with fear. I bruised my friends hand by holding it so hard. My friends admitted it was a particularly bad flight though so it was't just me.

Anyway since then I haven't been on a plane and the thought of getting on one makes me feel sick. but I know it's a stupid fear to have, I know more people get killed crossing road/driving car/getting out of bed  i've had every tom dick and harry point that out to me once they know i won't fly

I need to fly, not just for me but for Jack and OH. They deserve to go out and see the world and I don't want to hold them back. I love cruising but again limited for destinations if I don't fly and plus we can't afford that every year.

My plan is to book a holiday. Just book it and forget about it and just go. Get on the bloody plane and fly. Cos it can't be that bad. Maybe my memory is making it worse than what it was iykwim.

I'm just scared i'll book it then not get on plane.

Do you think it's a good idea? or bad idea?
I don't like idea of flying course for fear as i'd rather be with oh when I get on a plane at last

Go for it !
I would book a holiday and the take a bottle of rescue remedy with you for the plane, it's always helps me when i get nervous .

is that the stuff you smell and it calms you? oooh i'm excited. I want to go on holiday properly again. somwhere sunny! without having to cross the bay of biscal :puke: :puke:

A teacher I worked with was like you, yet she managed to travel the world by just 'going for it'. Sometimes it is best to reliase your fears are real however irrational and only you have the power to confront them or spend your life missing out because of them. I say go for it-you could get run over by a bus tomorrow (sorry-joke in poor taste  )

Good luck!

 thanks! Yeah thats what I think too, cos if I go on a fear of fling course at the end of the day I still have to find something inside myself to overcome the fear so why not just go for it on a holiday instead iykwim. Ahh i think i am gonna do it. well after new yr lol

It's a liquid you can get it as a squirter or a dropper and you put it on your tongue.

I am the complete opposite of you!!! I could fly any day any time any place, but a boat  eeeek!!

I went to France on a school trip and was sick about 15 times on the way there - so much so I called my Dad to pay for me to fly home and leave the rest of my class to bus/boat is back!

With regards to flying, I would just go for it... for your first to get you back in the swing of things, just take a 2-3hr max flight... dont go booking any hols in Oz or America until you have done some good shortish flights

Yeah I was thinking that, probably spain.. canaries at a push :)

there is a BRILLIANT book for you then!!!
it describes everything about why the plane does what it does, what the sounds that you hear are and what they do. it tells you all the bumps and things you feel, what they are etc. tells you how the plane flies, and how a plane wont just fall out of the sky etc etc etc

if going in and the pilot talking to you abobut stuff helped, then im sure this book will help too.

i dont remember the name of it off hand, but i can find it if you think it will be useful. it written specifically for people scared of flying (my oh is the same. last year he left me to fly home with benjamin who was just 3 and oliver who was 10 weeks old on my own!)

let me know if you wantme to hunt it out for you :)

Go to the Library and check out a book called Feel the Fear and do it anyway. Its a general book not actually about flying but the ideas and tips in it could really benefit you :)

I think its a good idea but i wouldnt book too far in advance as you will start dreading it maybe go for a last minute deal.

I'd book it... I mean, if the day comes that you decide that you just cant fly......as your friend...I'll always be on stand-by to take your place!!

Aww thanks girls.. will check that book out Melanie and yeah star if you know the name of one you mean that would be brill thanks

I know what u mean about not booking too far in advance; maybe last minute is an idea.

And Foxxi  i'm sure simon wouldn't mind as long as u go topless :rotfl:

i thought about that as would be perfect but would they let me on plane if i was knocked out lol
