My OH is always moaning that I never give hints about what I want for presents & he can never think of anything to get me. The thing is I do hint all the time but he's rubbish at picking up on it! So while he was at work today I found 3 or 4 things i like the look of and saved the web pages in his favourites folder :rotfl: Maybe that'll help...

What's the most effective way you've found to subtley make sure you get what you want for Christmas? (Or don't you bother?)

My OH doesnt take subtle hints. I walked into a shop with him 2 weeks b4 my birthday, pointed at a necklace and said thats really really nice, maybe like birthday present nice. The next day he said he had no idea what to get and would I go shopping with him so he didnt get me something I hated!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Dipstick

I dont know how to but last christmas my oh managed to get me everything that I wanted. I didnt even hint that much.. He bought me ugg boots as part of my main pressie and even got the right colour and everything! right down to the necklace he bought me was silver and not gold as I dont like gold. It was our first christmas together as well, he did fab!!

well after a few years of my OH being me things that he actually wanted like dvds/cds etc, i now tell him what sort of things i want, and i ask him, although his year we said we would just get a few things and go shopping in the sales.

last year i was very very lucky for xmas , he suprised me with managing to get a wii ( when they were oos alot) shame he didnt do aswell for my birthday , it was in may and im stil waiting :rotfl:

tbh this year , i dont actually know what i want, there's nothing i can think of ? so im thinking maybe night in hotel ? without baby of cause ?

Hey maybebaby,

I don't think that'll work - men are so dim when it comes to hints. Personally I'd just tell him! Slightly less romantic, but at least you'll get what you want!

OH had a spare £200 that he'd got for doing some recording for someone when DD was nearly due. He said he'd buy me a present (in lieu of an eternity ring as we're not married!) for having the baby and making him a Daddy. I thought an antique ring would be beautiful and we went for a look, then he suggested we spend the money on putting thermostats on the radiators in our house instead  !

Aw,valentine,how romantic
I hope OH does get the hint this year...he usually catches on well enough...though I've pretty much told him what i want this year. Only problem with that is,he goes "Do you want me to give you the money and you can get it,in case I make a mistake?"

:wall: :wall:

Ha-ha, my OH sees "hints" where there are none! One year he bought be a cd player for my car cos I'd mentioned in passing it'd be nice. I didn't mean as a pressie tho!

So now whenever it comes close to birthdays/Christmas I tell him in plain language that I "DO NOT WANT ELECTRICAL ITEMS!" So things have improved a bit since then

He's already asked me what I want for Christmas and to be honest I have no idea but I've circled a few items of jewellery in a catalogue and said to him there's some ideas for him if he doesn't know.

To be honest I'd be happy with some perfume or a beauty treatment but he's not that creative!

i write a list and save it on the desktop of the computer in capital letters. JILLS CHRISTMAS LIST! that is the only way to get hints across to my dh, i have to plainly ask for it!!! he is usually good about getting me a wee surprise too

It's nice to know I'm not the only one! I still remember the first time he bought me flowers (after 2 1/2 years together, and 6 months living together) - we walked past a florists & I said it'd be nice to have some flowers in the house... he dug £5 out of his pocket & gave it to me & said I'll buy them :rotfl: that was it...

I checked the computer history this morning and he has looked at the pages so lets hope I get a nice 'surprise' this year :D

My bloke and I don't do hints, as we prefer surprises. This in return means, that if I really like something I've got to keep it to myself, especially when it's getting closer to Christmas, as if I mentioned it, he definitely wouldn't get it. (However, if I mention something in passing in, say, February, it might be that I'll get it at the next Christmas)

I prefer it that way, as he always comes up with brilliant ideas, I've indeed never expected. If we did hinting than we would miss out on all the fun with winding each other up about Christmas presents for weeks. The only hard and fast rule is that we're both banned from buying anything for ourselves as a treat from mid-November onwards.

Brian is the opposite... I just say "oh thats nice/pretty" and he says "do you want it?"

He keeps asking me what I want for christmas this year and I keep saying "just him to be home" I hope I get my wish

just set the picture of it as his desktop background :rotfl:

OMG that is the best idea I've heard! Love it!! :D

In my experience using words like 'subltelty and hints' in the same sentence as the word 'man' usually result in disappointment

I go buy it myself and wrap it with cute bows and stuff to make sure I get what I want
