Hi Ladies

After going to my nearest hospital yesterday, I found that the staff were so rude and unhelpful, that I was petrified at the prospect of going there to give birth.

I've found another hospital nearby that I'd prefer to go to, does anyone know if I have to go to the one that is nearest, or whether I have the right to choose? I know that my nearest has quite a good reputation, but from what I've seen, I'm filled with dread at the prospect of going there. I thought nursing and midwifery were caring professions, but they really didn't care for me!

As far as im aware u can change hospitals if your not happy. I think ppl on here have done it in the past. x

Were you there for an appiontment or to look round? (Only asking as I tell the midwife when I see her but previously the DR had already referred me to my chosen hospital by now). You certainly can choose where you have you baby, and if you haven't already specified you'll get asked where you want to go. If you have already specified then I am sure you'll be able to change. It is entirely your choice.

I went to chat about my flu jab as my Dr has run out but our BIG hospital is running clinics with a consultation before hand, travelled an hour and they were so unhelpful, I just don't trust them to care for me and pickle! It's a really deep feeling of uneasiness around them, was in tears last night to hubby over it all.

You can pick where to have your baby, and the midwife told me the other day that it doesnt really matter where you have said you will go if it gets to the day and you want to go somewhere else then just go lol

Yeah you can definitely choose where to go - here, if I wanted to go to a hospital different to my nearest one I would need to see different midwives to the ones I normally see too so you might end up having to go a bit further for normal midwife appointments. If you feel that worried about it though, will be worth it (unless you get a tour of the hospital you don't like and are filled with new confidence).

im hoping my midwife wont try and change my mind, as i dont want to give birth at my local hospital as its recently been downgraded to a midwife lead unit only :-( will mean traveling 40mins by car to the next nearest, which is where i was bord :) and has recently re-opened after a complete re-do!

i think we have to put our baby's first and if we're not comfortable somewhere it will pass on the the baby and might cause them disstress because we're stressed!

My nearest one is still an hours drive from my house, the next closest is 1 hour 15 mins, not really that much difference.

When I called the midwife she said she would still do my check ups etc but for bloods, scans and delivery, I can go to the other hospital. Went to the one I like recently with my dad for them to remove his tumor, they were so good with him, made me see that some of the medical profession do actually care!
