I've been looking for work now for about 6 month ish & not even had an interview, i've finally got an interview for this week but i'm 2-3 week pregnant - I still want the job but i think if i tell them i'm pregnant they won't even offer it me.

I did consider just not telling them until I was showing or something but now i'm thinking if I have to do heavy lifting or going up ladders etc I wouldnt be able to and therefore I should tell them so they know why i cant do certain jobs.

What do you think I should do?
I dont want to lie but I also want the job!

When I began reading your post my initial reaction was that I wouldn't tell them. But then you made the very good point about heavy lifting and climbing up ladders. If that would be part of the job then I guess you would have to. But to be honest Im not sure what the law states? Could you wait until they offer it to you perhaps? I'm probably not the best person to advise on this but didn't want to read and run. I'm sure some other ladies know a bit more about legislation regarding this? Good luck in your interview xx

well i was thinking to wait til they offer it me an then tell them but then id probably feel uncomfortable theyd probably not like me as much, even if i said i didnt know i think theyd assume i did it on purpose.

My instinct would honesty, because as you pointed out you won't be able to do certain duties. And to be perfectly honest with you, as unfair as it sounds they probably won't give you the job.

Have you thought about joining a few temp agencies? That way you'll be taking short term jobs while you can, and getting extra experience for when baby is here and you can look for permanent work.

how do i join a temp agency? ive never done this before

From a selfish point of view I wouldn't tell them until I'd had an offer in writing, then you are legally protected. If you need the money for your family its worth it. Plus whats not to say you won't give them 10 years loyal service after your mat leave?

I have to admit I am inclined to agree with this.

Don't forget there's a reason why it's now illegal to be asked if you're married, got kids, are expecting etc by employers, it shouldn't influence their decision making, however experience has taught me that it does.

Just search Google for temp agencies in your area or on Yell.com, and give them a call :)

I also have to say that I completely get where VikkiR is coming from - as she said potential employers are not supposed to discriminate in any way when interviewing - but they really do :(

I don't think you're legally obliged to tell them until you're 25 weeks pregnant.. Honesty is the best policy, but, as you're so early on in your pregnancy, I would just hold off telling them until a few weeks into your new job. At the end of the day, you need to do what's best for you + your family xx

As your only 2-3weeks pregnant i dont think i would tell them. then in after having the job a few weeks tell them and say you only just found out....i didnt even know i was pregnant until i was 6weeks along due to irregular period.

s so its not impossible....and in that time prove yourself to be a willing and reliable employee so that when you do finally tell them they will accept it easier. lets face it its up to you when you tell them and you are only trying to do whats best for your new family. no body could blame you for that.
Once you start the job you will be able to gauge how heavy the work is and thentell them if it us too heavy but it might not be anyway.....health and safety laws are there as a constant protection to employees these days pregnant or not.

Good luck and put yourself and your babys future first....you owe nobody else anything.....just yourselves.
