My DD is 11 and she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in December.

She is currently on a regime of 4 injections a day. 3 quick acting and a 24 hr one before bed.

Her sugar levels have been a lot more stable since she started on the 4 injections.

No but my DH is a type I, is anyone in your family type I as well? Wondering if there's a genetic link? I hope she's managing ok x

Yes, both my sister and my cousin have type 1. We think it's genetic on the maternal side of our family.

She's doing really well thank you. She does all her own readings and injections. :)

I was diagnosed with type 1 when I was 7. It soon becomes a way of life and I dont even think about it now, life would be majorly strange without having finger pricks and injections every day. Hope your DD is doing well xx

It's important to give your child a healthy balanced diet that is high in fibre and carbohydrates.
A healthy diet is the same for everyone, whether or not they have diabetes.
How much your child should eat depends on age and weight. The dietician and parents should determine this together.
Sweets are no longer off limits because the 'diabetic diet' is now a relic of the past.
Once your child gets to know how her body responds to eating and taking insulin, sweets in moderation are possible - accompanied by the appropriate dose of insulin.
