One of my cats Shelly loves me to bits and is always sitting with me and miaowing at me. However, since I found out I was pregnant she keeps wanting to sit on my shoulder, face, chest, anywhere she can and keeps squeezing herself down the side of the chair with me and follows me to the loo etc. Shes very amusing.

So, do you think animals 'know' when youre pregnant as Ive heard some peoples dogs become more protective too.

Yeah definitly! I think my dog new before me she followed me everywhere and became really affectionate and clinging. Shes a bouncy naughty boxer who always runs off when I'm walking her but she comes back straight away now when I call her and she don't go so mad jumping up at me. Wonder what she will be like when the baby arrives?

aww thats so cute. I love boxers as they have squidgey faces. My cats are spoiled but Shelly is a little baby and loves me and shes becoming annoying now wailing at me and sitting on my head.

I'm not sure about my dog... She seems to behave same as usually. But she still very young, so maybe doesn't really understand such things yet?

Some dogs stay away from you and can get huffy! I was reading about it online, our hormone make us smell different!

We have 6 cats and none of them have changed their behaviour towards me but ....

My Cousin has a Teacup Chihuahua (smallest dog in the world!) and before I was pregnant he didn't take any notice of me what so ever. Now every time I see him he makes a bee line for me, jumps onto my lap and just sits there perfectly still like he's guarding me!! I wouldn't mind but he's about the size of a 6 week old kitten so he couldn't protect me from a fly! lol x

I think maybe because my cat loved me way too much anyway shes just got more loving. Shes slightly crazy too and lays like a baby on her back in my arm!

My Mum misses her tiny Chihuahau, we lost her about 4 years back and she was beautiful and dainty with long hair and a tiny pointy face. Theyre great little dogs.

my owm dogs and cat havent been any diff but i run a boarding kennels and we have a girl dog called red who has stayed with us many times over the past few years well last week she decided she all of a sudden wants to try and bonk me to death lol shes never done it b4 in the end i had to get one of the other people who work for me to come and clean her out cos she just wouldnt give up lol i wondered if maybe i have a strange smell about me or some thing now with being pregnant xx

Glad my dog not been trying to bonk me lol! Maybe cats don't pick up the change in smell so much, suppose dogs are used to sniff things out, maybe they would make good pregnancy testers!

yep my cat bella wont leave me alone she watches me when i around my due date

My dogs, the male in particular, became very protective, overly so. My cats avoided me like the plague, until just before I was due to drop, then they wouldn't leave me alone!

I can just imagine it, "Im just popping to the local kennels to see if Im pregnant"

It's spooky, I was gonna post the same thing!
I have a 5 month old Springer Spaniel and normally when she gets cuddles she lies anywhere she can get but the last 2 weeks she's started lying across my tummy when i'm on my side so her front paws and head are just resting on the side of me like she's protecting me. Even the other half noticed last week. Bless. They're adorable!! xxx

When I lived with my mom at the start of my pregnancy her dog would just sit next to me and "inspect" anyone that came near me. She's usually really crazy and bouncing off the Walls but was always calm round me!

Our cat was really more OH's cat, she totally ignored me. She'd deliberately sit between us etc, right little madam!

About 2 weeks after BFP, she jumped on my lap for the first time and stayed there. She kind of nuzzles her head against my tummy.

This is so interesting, I've been wondering the same. I have 2 rabbits that live in my house like cats, 1 girl and 1 boy, I've had the little boy for longer and he is definately the tamer of the two, but since I got pregnant he refuses to come near me, he growls at me if I pick him up and generally won't give me the time of day which is so unlike him at all, he was my baby and used to sit on my knee for hours! The little girl who is much shyer and more independent can't leave me alone she sits on my shoulder and just stares at me, or she lays by my feet and stares at me, and she's started clambering over my tummy which was unheard of before!!! It's so weird, I figured they must have picked up on my hormones!!!

How funny, my dog and cat haven't acted any differently that I've noticed; but my horses have been so strange! My hubby hasn't let me ride or get in the field with them since the early stages as Bill, (the biggest, stupidest horse), is a headbutter and we were worried about him getting my tummy. But I've been missing them so much I went down last week and all 3 of them were so gentle and put their noses against my belly and just kind of nuzzled it, it was so sweet I could have cried! Even our little shetland was reaching up to sniff my belly, so cute.

Animals are just so amazing, they're a lot more intuitive and sensitive than we think I'm sure.

i think my cat is also more in love with me since i became pregnant, she lays with me now and also my little yorki lays against my back when im laid in bed and when were on the sofa he tries getting behind me its crazy... before i fell preg thy were both oh's pets lol

I think my dog my also be in sympathy with me and the morning sickness! She's really been off her food last few weeks, picking at it or leaving it till much later and burrying her chew sticks up the garden, she was even sick yesterday morning, altho dogs do randomly be sick I guess! My hubby thinks she's in sympathy anyway!
