So here I am, expecting to have a baby today (no signs of anything happening at the moment, fortunately!) when I get a phone call from OH. He has got in his car to come home and his car is dead. No ideas why - it has just broken down. So he thinks 'fear not, I have Direct Line Breakdown Recovery, they'll rescue me.' Direct Line man turns up and says 'where to guv?' OH says 'aren't you even going to have a look at it to see if you can fix it?' Direct Line man; 'We don't do that, you're thinking of the AA. We just take you to where you want to go.' 'Oh,' says OH. 'Take me home then - to Newbury.' Direct Line man; 'I can't do that - I'm only allowed to take you within a 10 mile radius of where you break down.' No amount of protesting about the heavily pregnant wife was going to get the Direct Line man to change his mind. :x :x :x

Well what f*****g good is that? He broke down in Surbiton. They have offered to take him anywhere he wants within 10 miles of Surbiton, but clearly there is not much point in that, as all the garages are closed, it being 6.30pm on a Friday night. His sister lives in Thames Ditton, which IS within 10 miles of Surbiton, so at this moment in time he is being towed there, wondering how to get home. I cannot go and collect him because it is not safe for me to drive that far by myself at the moment (it takes about 1hr20min.)

I am so angry! I did ring Direct Line myself to rant at them, but got put in a queue and had time to reflect, and thought I'm just going to sound like a mad hormonal woman so I thought I'd vent my spleen somewhere were people will go 'there, there,' and not think I am nuts!

So thanks for reading. I believe OH is in the process of cancelling his Direct Line subscription which is renewable on the 1st August, and taking out AA cover instead. And if my sorry tale of woe persuades just a couple of you not to renew with them I'll feel happy their own crap-ness has deprive them of a customer or two.

eurgh i would be incredibly angry as well hunni, so dont worry and i know i would rant at them down the phone and stuff, they should make it clear about rules and stuff when you sign up to them,
and its worse becasue you are pregnant and you need him with you
i dso hope you are ok and that everything is fine and hopefully your OH will get home to you soon and safe
have a hug

awww hun i'm sorry, hope he gets home quickly!
good luck with the baby

thats disgraceful, who the hell thought of that?????? :x :x

omg direct line are useless...
i had insurace with them once and all the wheels on my car got stolen.. it had to go to their garage no courtesy car and took a fortnight to get 4 wheels put on

hop you get it sorted

OH is home now, his brother in law drove him back, but his car is still in Surbiton and he'll have to try and sort it out on Monday. Which means if the baby comes over the weekend he will have to choose from the cars we currently have on our drive; my teeny Rover which he is embarrassed to be seen in, the Scuzzmobile (my ancient towing pajero 4x4) or my brother's Andorran registered Opel Belmont which is covered in parking tickets.
