This Might Sound Stupid But I Need To Know!

How Many Of You Have Ever Lost Your Cat Or Had It Run Over? Im Debating Whether To Keep Mine & Teach Them To Start Going Outside But Im Scared They Wont Come Back.

Did Yours Survive?

How old are they?? I didn't let mine out until the kittens were at least 12 weeks old or the adopted one had been locked inside the house for 2 weeks so that he had the smell of the house and could come back....someone mentioned to me about putting butter on their paws if they go out though 'cos they lick it off when they are walking away and can retrace their steps ....maybe???

How long have you had them?? I remember reading your post about you getting them, if they are crying to go out maybe just walk them out in your garden but cats are pretty smart to be honest and if they do go then there is every chance they will come back, they don't seem as bothered as us about their first day out. I remember being so scared and the first time my newest cat went out for the first time and then he disappeared over a wall and only came back 12 hours later!! I had already made posters etc up with rewards when he came back in all casual like

I have 4 cats at the mo and they go out. We have sadly lost one, my Mollycat who was my little baby. She got run over, my OH found her and it broke my heart. We eventually got another, Peggy who I tried to keep in but with the other 3 going out it was impossible (I could't change the others going out as they are used to it). Saying that I find my toms go wandering whereas both my girls tend to stay in the garden, the lazy cows!!

hey chick i've got 2 cats 1 is 8 years old and she only goes out for the toilet then comes straight back,
The other is a nightmare she is 3 years old and since we've been letting her out she's always out she loves being outdoors!

I would definately say give it a go even if you stand outside with them to see what they do, they might not even wonder out your garden hun x

This Is What Im Scared Of. Theres a Busy Road Right Outside Our House. Maybe If I get Them "Done" Then They Wont Waunder Off To Mate? If They Got Run Over We'd Be Obviously Devastated But The OH Would Be a Wreck.

Ive never had my cats hit by a car but I hate to admit I ran over a cat last year. It just shot out infront of my car and went right under the wheel. I think a dog spooked it. We werent sure if it was dead but we rushed it to the emergency vets but they said it had died  I cried for weeks. I still think about it now. I hate myself for it.

I think it depends on whether you live near a main road. We live on a cul-de-sac with a park behind the house so are happy for our cat to go out.

we live near a road that gets busy in the morning and hometime. If I lived near a very busy road I would never have let themout. Definatley get them done, I have 2 cute kittys that weren't planned but the others have all been done, this one will be when the kittys have left the nest. We have had probs with Toby being adopted loads, drives me mad. He was living in another house being called Ellie for a few weeks - so ours are all chipped too.

Oh yeah if you can afford it get them chipped if not I think that the Blue Cross or the PDSA will do it for you for free, its definitely worthwhile.

thought they could go out after they had their injections or whatever it is they have

our cats dont go outside cos we have had a few run over
but my mum let hers out in the back garden and he went over into another garden and got killedby a dog

Yikes Thats Horrible :|

Its Either Let Them Go Outside Or Send Them Away

sorry but when i used to ive with my dad he lived on a main road and from the ages of 1 till about 16 we had atleast 30 odd cats and sadly 80% of them got killed of badly hurt on the road
it does depend on the cats though and how used they are to raods and things
manda xx

we had a cat who used 2 go out and come as he pleased. one nite he went out and never came back :(

but a couple of years later, he did come back in the garden but ran away when we opened the door.

he looked healthy, well-fed and had a collar on so altho we were annoyed someone stole him, its good 2 kno hes happy and looked after.

our current 2 cats are housecats. one has special needs the other one is a bit of a scaredy cat he just wont go beyond half of the garden hehe

The cats that we have had have been fine going outside. The one I have at the moment is too scared of next door's tart of a cat, Gracie!! He wont go out and it's a real pain in the neck because I hate having to have a litter tray in the house.

cats need to be outside. i think its cruel (well not cruel - unnatural) to deny them the freedom they enjoy.
Just keep them in at night maybe.

our cat only goes out to do its business lol
its always been like that and we tried to make it go out more but i think it just prefers being inside. it will sit outside in the garden but thats the furthest it ever goes
