Hi ladies
Just a quick question..... did any of you take snacks to eat during labour with you to the hosp?? If so, what did you take and what did you manage to eat???
Thank you xxxxx

I didn't eat anything during labour (but then LO was born within 30 minutes of us arriving). I can't even remember drinking anything much, but I did have cooled water sprayed on my face (felt really good as I was in a warm birthing pool) :) .

Afterwards I ate some cashew nuts, raisins and tinned pineapple. Apart from that I was far too excited to eat anything else...

I didnt want anything to eat in labour but its a good idea to get something in the first stages if poss. Snacks incase you have to stay in hospital is good as I was fed mince and smash for 5days!!! Its good to take some stuff for OH too just incase you are in for a while.

I took things like muffins, flapjack, chocolate bars, cereal bars. Hubby ate some while I was in labour and then they came in very handy afterwards in hospital while I was healing from my section.

Nope

I didn't have time to eat

And he was early so nothing was in the house or my bag for that matter

But snacks would be a good idea I think

I took 2 bags of Quavers, a 6 pack of Cadburys Break bars and a 4 pack of fruit shoots. OH ate most of them but there were a copule of Breaks left after so I had one about 3 hours after delivery (and oh how it was welcomed!) and I had one the next day on the ward :D

I took cereal bars, bananas, flapjacks etc. Didnt actually eat any of them during labour, was the last thing on my mind. They did come in very handy afterwards though, I was starving for the first few hours after birth! I did drink loads though, took in several different drinks from water to lucozade and drank most of them during labour, I was so hot!

OK so I had a homebirth but my MW told me to eat as much as I could in the early stages for energy later on. She said to eat a proper meal that evening. So I did. 3 hours after labour proper began. I have to say I think it helped. I threw it up at around 2am however, but that was ok.

I didn't really snack in labour. Drank water and Lucozade and had a few dry biscuits. And a glass of OJ to raise my sugar levels.

They usually say things like flapjack, raisins etc, energy foods. If you labour at home as long as possible I'd try to eat a meal there before heading in to hospital. Just depends how quick your labour progresses. But hopefully enough time that when first stage starts you'll be able to get some food in. Carbs are good then. Slow release energy.

I took some nutrigrain bars in my hospital bag, but didn't eat anything during labour. They were a god send for the days following on the ward though.

Banana's and Tracker bars and Lucozade, and water to drink will be supplied anyway but helpful in keeping you hydrated, would highly recommend them and say that eating and drinking whilst in labour will keep your energy levels up and also remind you to go to the toilet :D

I had some lemon thins - Sainsbury's yummiest biscuits! If you're in hospital oonly take small bites so you don't end up trying quickly to swallow so you can take gas and air like I kept doing

couldnt stand the thought of food, and i kept spewing :puke: but ice cold water helped :D

i didnt and i was starving at the end of it, had to sent the OH to get me some burger and chips. water helped loads

i didnt get a chance to eat after being at the hozzie only a little while all mine were born, with my 3rd i was at the hozzie 5 mins and he was born.
i was really hungry after though so if i were you id take some snacks in for after

I went to Little Chef while I was in labour and had a massive dinner :rotfl: It was so lush! Inbetween contractions...!

I was full up during labour, so can't really help :( xx

I took loads of food with me  I had a seperate bag for snacks, in which I packed:

Dried apricots
Brazil nuts
Shortcake biscuits
Cereal bars
Crunch cream biscuits
Lucozade
Apple juice (3 mini cartons)
Dark chocolate truffle bar - my reward for having a baby! :D

I ate none of this in labour! Apart from the lucozade. I managed to eat half of my mum's cheese sandwich before things got too painful, then food was the last thing on my mind! The lucozade was brilliant though, it got to the stage where I was fed up with water so it was a welcome change :) I ate the dark chocolate about 2 hours after giving birth, and the rest of it was eaten on the 4 days I was on the ward and believe me, it was a complete lifesaver as the hospital food was a bit pants, hehe. I would take as much with me next time too.

Thanks ladies!!
Will take some of your suggestions..... I've heard the hossie food is :puke: :puke: !!!!!!

i had a home birth so couldve eaten anything in the house but i didnt eat anything the day i gave birth, except one oatibix in the morning which i threw up anyway. food was the furthest thing from my mind lol. some people do tho

I was induced so I wasn't allowed anything, although tbh I wasn't hungry and at the end of my labour I was being sick anyway!

Dan was born at 8pm and the last thing I had eaten was 6.30pm the previous evening. By the time we got back up to the ward and I had had a little sleep, I woke up at about 3am absolutely starving! My mum had left me a cheese ploughmans sandwich, which I'm not a fan. I ate half of it and it was the best sandwich I have ever eaten in my life!

So maybe take something for after labour because you don't always get a chance and when you are ready to eat there may not be anything available.
