ladies,
I need your help, my Coq10 arrived today and dh hit the roof! Telling me I was wasting my money on witch doctors and ‘magic potions’ and that the pills are just people taking advantage of vulnerable women.

I take the following supplements:
Sevens seas multivitamin for trying to conceive (includes folic acid)
Omega 3
Inofolic (Recommended by my doctor)
And now I am adding coq10.

Now I’m not stupid, I do a lot of research before taking supplements because I know that a lot that are advertised to help fertility aren’t backed by scientific research and can actually make your odds worse!

Yes, we are approaching 2 years and I’m desperate, desperate to conceive and desperate not to have a 4th miscarriage.

I’m really upset that he’s had such a reaction and I’m not sure really how to make him see the reasons why I’m taking them. Do you ladies think I’m taking too many?

Hunny I don’t think you’re taking too many. If it’s any conciliation my other half is the same, especially when it comes to accupuncture. He thinks it’s a waste of money so he doesn’t contribute towards the cost. In the run up to IVF I spent £160 in 4 sessions on accupuncture, which considering I’ve cut my hours right back this month, is a chunk of cash.

I do tonnes of reading and checking things, and there’s no shifting my OH’s view.

I think sometimes they get mad at us because they are worried about how caught up in it we are, and it’s something they can’t ‘fix’. Also, tell him the pills are a helluva lot cheaper than IVF so worth a try.

I believe in the CoQ10 because it worked for my friend and with one ‘top quality’ embryo inside me now (at almost 43) I think there’s something in it.

Sending you a hug. Xx

I totally believe coq10 is worth it too, apparently lots of ivf clinics in the USA get women started on it prior to their treatment, lots of women have had much more successful egg retrieval’s while using it so there is evidence that it supports egg quality, I don’t think you are taking too much at all, the ttc multi vit is what anyone ttc should be taking, then you’ve only added 2 more things none of which can do any harm! X

Maybe the situation stresses him out too because he hasn't been able to get you pregnant. I'm sure it weighs heavily on him too.
He's probably worried about you being too invested and I would be worried too if my oh took loads of supplements which I haven't researched. Maybe if you show him what the benefits are or send him some info on the supplements.

But if it really stresses him out that much, take it without telling him. You don't have to hide it but don't talk about it.

Hi Kitana,

I think you’re right, he sometimes worries he isn’t going to be enough to make me happy if we can’t have kids and I know he doesn’t want trying to be a never ending thing.

I don’t normally talk to him about ttc or supplements in any great detail because of it, it’s only because he accidentally opened the parcel as it didn’t have a name on.

I'm 100% behind q10! I took in total 5 tablets a day (na cytalin, q10, cholin inasitol, folic acid and a general mutli vitamin) all of which my ivf clinic knew about and even my accupuncturist was totally on board with.

My hubby was sceptical at first to be honest but I sent him links to articles and once he saw that (even if it was a small percent) some women were helped by the vitamins, he was on board. When we had our first ivf appointment he even asked the doc to make sure, so once he felt happy he was happy for me to take them. Maybe he just needs to read the info and see that it helps? Huge hugs hun x

I fully intend on taking a high dosage of co10 well in advance of my 3rd and final cycle in Sept along with acupuncture starting next week.

Line many of you have said, other clinics outside of our nhs prescribe it for low AMH and poor quality eggs I bought advance of ivf etc.

This is based in fact not fiction... and we feel a little more in control and pro active.

Stay strong ladies xxx
