I'm not sure if Rubie's development is normal.

She is alert and sociable, but she can't do the things that other peoples baby can do, some who are even younger :(

She can't grab a toy
She can't roll over
She hasn't discovered her feet
She wont accept solids
She still gets really bad colic (which I thought they grew out of by 3 months, but she got it at at 3 months?)

Should I be worried? :?

Hi Kim

I can't help about the development as I'm not sure what the babies should be doing at what age, I do think all babies are different though so dont worry hun, wee Rubie will do those things soon I'm sure.

Re the colic though, at my baby massage class last week the lady who takes the class said we'll be doing the "colic massage" next week, as the babies who attend this class are all 15 + wks (apart from Olivia who is 10 wks) one of the mums said surely that's a bit late as doesn't Colic stop at 3 months but the teacher said no, it usually starts around 6 wks or 12 wks. I hadn't heard of this before but that's what she said.

How is Rubie's Colic, has it eased at all? Are you using any medicine? I'm sure the colycinthis granules got rid of Olivia's.

Kim. don't worry. The developmental milestones are there as a very rough guide and you have to remember all babies develop at their own pace. Seren can't do things other babies can at mother and baby group. In fact her social smiling took ages. She had smiled buit would just glower at everyone til quite late but now she beams at everyone. She isn't laughing, she just opens her mouth really wide and does a kind of grunt but no laugh sound. With the toy grabbing Seren still has trouble tryiong to reach out for things, will pick up a blanket but finds toys harder. It has to be a soft lightweight toy. Rubie will start doing all of those things very soon, or start doing other stuff that Seren doesn't. Really hun don't worry. x

I posted on here about her screaming fits and I now think it is colic that is causing them. All I do for her when she starts is massage her. It's like a miracle, it stops the crying straight away. I would love someone else to try this to see if it works for them becasue it has been so good for Rubie. I just do her legs when she is screaming but do a full one about once a week at class or at home after her bath.

When Olivia's colic was bad I used to massage her abdonomen whilst pushing her legs up towards her stomach and it also had instant results.

PS: has anyone an idea about the time when babies are able to sit up without support? Not that I am expecting Maheen to do it now, but would like to know if she will be able to do it when on Hols, in france this summer! Thanks.

I think its about 6 or 7 months they can sit unaided for a short time. Aimee is almost 5 months and she is no where near ready yet, my eldest did it a 7 months.

Hiya,

As said before all babies develop at different rates.

Abi was holding toys very early on but i had to give them to her she wouldn't pick them up, she found her toes at nearly 5 1/2 months, she rolled over at 5 1/2 months, if she wont accept solids she's not ready many babies dont have solids until 6 months, look out for her waking in the night after sleeping through and watching you when you eat these are some signs she could be ready, she never had colic so can't comment on it.

she is able to sit now but i still sit behing her with her inbetween my legs cos she still leans backwards and falls over :wall: i certainly wouldn't leave her to sit on her own yet but maybe in another month or so (she is 7 months now and has been sitting for about 3 weeks)

She is also able to hold her body weight on her legs and can stand for a couple of minutes if you hold her hands, she can't balance yet and again i wouldn't let her stand on her own yet.

Hope this helps a littlw ( Abi was 5 weeks early buyt IMO this has had no effect on her development) She said dada at nearly 7 months and said mama yesterday :) also discovered she can bang her toys and make noises JOY!

Kim, Rubie has excelled at some things like head control, i remember seing her in her bumbo seat thingy ages ago, thats way advanced!!!
She has also played with a toy, and all this is hard work especially since she is so busy being gorgeous lol.
I think it is something that we all worry about, and we all want our baby to be advanced, its natural. All babies will differ in achieving their milestones, ill bet it all comes at once for her.
She's good at drinking milk!!

Kim, your wee Rubie is just perfect!!! :D All our babies are so different and seem to reach their milestones at different times. You might think she's falling behind now, but in a couple of weeks or months, she'll fly past you!
There will be no stopping her then - how you'll then wish you could just sit down with a cuppa!!

ps. don't worry about her not wanting to take solids. Oscar is nearly 4 months and I don't think he would be very good with it just yet. He likes booby far too much!!! :D :D

Neither can Naomi, and she's just about 15 weeks now, Kim. Has Rubie had her three month checkup? If so, she's fine. Every baby is unique and I'm sure that Rubie will be dazzling you in no time.

Funny, I was just thinking the other day that perhaps I should leave Naomi barefoot a little more often so that she can find her feet - she's definitely managed to find her genitalia when her nappy's off!

Hey hun :D

Jack can't do any of that, he can grip toys but only if you open his hand and put them in.

He laughs and really eyes everyone up but well, thats it!!!

Don't worry

lol Sue, Seren is always playing with her tuppence as soon as her nappy is off. :D

Ain't seen you on bebo lately beanie...no time with all the stuff you have to do I guess... And I drew a lovely picture of a monster truck too...

it's a nice way of putting it, we're not all as crude as you!!!

haha eva hasn't started doing that yet.

she smiles and makes gurgling happy noises but isn't laughing yet - is rubie?

we have to remember that they were early too though. that sometimes shifts things around a bit. I think babies do things at different times anyway - just like how adults exel at different things too.

No chuckling yet... watch this space, every time she does anything will go on here!!!! She managed to eat a bit of sweet potato today (see pics thread) so there is some progress lol

YAY!! Rubie rolled onto her side this morning!!

She's getting there! :D
