I don't know why I'm posting this really cos I suppose I know what the answer is...but here goes anyway!!!

After spending the day with a few friends and their babies it just appeared that their babies could do LOADS more than Violet, they are all very similar ages, some younger and they could all calp their hands and wave amoungst other things eg some could high five and put their arms up when mummy said 'so big!!!' anyway...they were saying what can Violet do and she can't do any of those things. :( She can sit up on her own and roll and everyone looked shocked. :(

I know babies develop at different rates and I'm annoying myself even thinking about it ......but just wanted opininons and reassurance really cos they made me feel like she was behind :(

Violet is 8 months this week, so still young....and I don't care if she does stuff late, just wanted reassuring that she's not a slow developer really.

Angel was 8 months when she learned to wave, and 9 months when she learned to clap. I've not even tried teaching her the "so big" thing. She'll do it when she's ready! People shouldn't act shocked at all!

Tania is almost 1 an she can clap, wave sometimes, says certain words but she can't crawl an doesnt seem to like standing up much, niether walk. she can sit unaided & roll.
makes me jealous of parents whose babies can walk at this age! :(

Iz started to sit unaided at 4 and half months, and started clapping and waving at 7 or 8 months....and thats all she can do  She only pulls herself up on my hands (so i do help her a little bit) she DID roll over, but only a couple of times, and i think that was a fluke tbh

There was a baby almost the same age at baby group today and she was doing MILES more than Iz. I dont let it bother me anymore. It did used to worry me, but she's just a laid back lazy baby  She'll do stuff whan she wants to , no matter how much i try and persuade her.

Dont let it worry you. I think it was quite rude of those other mums to looked shocked. All babies develop differently.

Fi has only just started waving, we're getting nowhere with the clapping and she can only crawl backwards... every baby is different hun, don't let it stress you, Vi will do things in her own time :)

xxxxx

aiden can't really clap his hands (he sort of waves them about by accident instead ) he can't wave properly or anything either, infact he doesn't even giggle much, he's done it a few times, but screams instead

don't worry

Collier waves but dosnt clap and ive not done the who's big thing
So id not worry :D as for them being shocked grr i hate Mums who think thier kids are better
Violet will progress at her own happy pace :D

My LO is older than you and still doesn't seem interested in crawling. She has never been a great roller either - actually hasn't rolled for weeks now.

Her new thing now is pointing at things (but remember my LO is older than Violet) and I tell her what the object she is pointing out is. She sometimes TRIES to repeat what I say - not that it sounds anything like what I have said :D . She has just started saying mummy (in Finnish). She can also point out a mouse in her favourite book when asked, and also tries to say it. So I am thinking maybe she'll be learning non-physical things first. All babies ARE different, and learn different things at different space.

You never know, maybe Violet is focusing on verbal skills first? Is she particularly interested in story reading etc?

Tbh, I prefer socialising with babies of different ages as then there is no 'competition'. My LO is such a happy, if not a little sensitive baby, that it's all what matters.

thanks everyone

you told me what i knew...but it's just what i needed

i think she's perfect no matter what she can or can't do, and i shouldn't let the other mum's get to me with threir stupid competiveness
