Babies are expensive, but does anyone find it really expensive having a baby? Do you find it a big dent on your budget?

My major prob is childcare costs and the rate she grows out her clothes.. :wall:

I think there's an estimate that it costs something like £150,000 to bring up a child  With having 4, we're not noticing Alex straining the finances too much, but I think Daniel (13) is slowly trying to bankrupt us :?

4  I think I'd be black listed. Credit 2 u hun, I am struggling with 1!

Once all the main things are bought she doesn't really cost us that much.

I suppose it depends really on:

-how much you earn (or how much savings you have)
-how much you get given (or buy 2nd hand)
-whether you b/f (or spend money on formula)
-how much unnessasary stuff you buy

Although I expect it to get more expensive as she gets older...

Was not rich before

Am worse off now

my boy will not be spoiled as certain babies are but he will get all our love and care and that is what matters

Love and affection is all that matters ur rite

Although I have bought Bex every toy under the sun to try and occupy her for 10 mins..No luck yet.

I always spend her child benefit every month on clothes, then 50 of our wages on clothes too, nursery fees, food, toys...We spend quite a whack every month, especially more now coz I don't see her wi me working full time, I feel guilty. That's terrible I know.

People say we buy her too much but come on you must all admitt it's hard to resist when u c things in the shops!

It hasn't cost us much, but losing my £900 a month wage doesn tend to hurt the bank balance as hubby is trying to make it up.
We don't buy new clothes i get all odf mine in sales or carboot sales!
So but i refuse to pay 20quid for a little suit that will last all of 2 months when i can probably get the same one at a carboot sale for a couple of quid or pennies if i'm luicky!! and the clothes with be in ace condition!
we did buy the cot, buggy, car seat new, but parents contributed

I try and wait tillxmas and b'days to get things. She gets a lot of pleasure out of daft things and I got a yellow teapot and people of ebay and she loves that.
Its the most expensive toys that seem to get played with least.

i get £900 a month thro wages and tax credits etc and as i am living at home i only pay £300 a month so have £600 to spend but i like to save as much as possible as wen i move out ill need the money as much as i can

Very level headed Sarah! At ur age I was spending like no tomorrow on my credit cards, had cosmetic surgery, going out getting drunk every nite with the girls ( i miss that part sometimes!)and I am still paying the debt off! Very level headed Sarah!

I guess it depends on how you spend your money as there are always cheaoer ways of getting things i.e.ebay. We have not found it too bad, have bought the big things but have tried to do it so we can use things for another baby so things are neutral. I breastfeed so save money there, use cloth nappies and reusable wipes (though am addicted to cloth so that hasn't worked out yet lol). I do buy some thibngs that are overpriced I guess, have spent £16 on a t-shirt but again it is gender neutral so other babies can wear it (plus it looks cool).

Was it u that bought a baby nirvana t shirt? I remember someone mentioned it but can't remember who

Cool 8) Smells like teen spirit! I am still searching for a Girls Aloud 1 for Rebecca!
