Hi everyone..

I post occasionally however I tend to lurk more..

I had my booking appointment this morning and the midwife has advised that I have an intermediate risk of developing dvt and as a result I have to have a daily injection into my tummy from 28weeks until 10dayd after the birth. Naturally I am quite apprehensive, I do understand why I need them though.

Does anyone else have to do this? Or had them done?

Thank you xx

Already doing them daily, it's a lot of effort and sometimes you want to just give up but you know it's for the good of the baby. After a while you get used to injecting yourself x

I had these after a recent ectopic pregnancy and my last labour.

I'm not gonna lie they made me very miserable and I only had to do them for a few weeks. They are absolutely necessary though in preventing VTE though and I can certify that the thought of having a PE which I was tested for was very scary.

Which bit of your appointment triggered the dvt risk?

Thank you for your replies..

Mrs law do you have to do it for the whole pregnancy?

Torino this is my fear that it will make me miserable although trying to remain positive about it! Midwife was doing a risk assessment on pre eclampsia.. something else and DVT I scored low risk on the other two and intermediate when it came to the dvt.

Hi there, Yes i had to do this this in my last pregnancy from 28 weeks & for another 6 weeks after the birth, I was so worried about doing this but when i started doing it, It wasn't as bad as i had expected. However i didn't inject into my stomach as i just couldn't bear the thought so instead i injected into the top of my leg which is also allowed, You will receive a disc from the hospital when you get your first lot of injections which explains about the drug & exactly how to use it, Its very helpful & really put my mind at rest X

So far I've been told it's just for up to 10/12 weeks. Hoping I'll be able to stop soon, FX. And yes, it can be quite miserable.
